Need help w/Nikita-EJ - 10/06/04 06:38 PM

I need help with the chords on the song Nikita. I have the verse and the chorus down pat, but I can't figure out the solo chords. I've been playing the song in C.

Thanks

NIKITA ELTON JOHN

A C#m D B E7 A

A D A
Hey Nikita is it cold, in your little corner of the world
A E E7 A
You can roam around the globe, & never find a warmer soul to know
D A
Oh I saw you by the wall, ten of your tin soldiers in a row
A E E7
With eyes that look like ice on fire
A
The human heart a captive in the snow

Chorus

A D A
Oh Nikita you will never know anything about my home
E E7
I'll never know how good it feels to hold you, oh no
A
Oh Nikita I need you so [ You'll never know ]
A D A
Oh Nikita is the other side, of any give line in time
E E7
Counting ten tin soldiers in a row, Oh no
A
Nikita you'll never know

Do you ever think of me
Do you ever see the letters that I write
When you look up thru the wire
Nikita do you count the stars at night?
And if there comes a time
Guns and gates no longer hold you in
And if you're free to make a choice
Just look towards the west and find a friend

Chorus

I just did an internet search for "nikita chords". There a number of sites offering lyrics and chords free, and the above 2 are just examples.

Here's the chords for the solo as lifted from my "Elton John Greatest Hits" book. The original is in G, so I've also written them down transposed a fifth. The book is by someone else writing down what they hear on the record, which can be a bit variable. The chords seem pretty close but I'm not totally convinced by the timing of some of the chord changes.

Starting immediately after the chorus preceding, it goes like this (the dots are beats, the bars are bars, a chord counts as a beat:

G...|Bm.[Solo starts]Bm7.|C...|F/C C..|
C...|G+9/B.G/B.|F/A...|..Bb.|Eb...|
Ab6/Eb...|G7/D...|Cm...|Ab...|....|
D7sus...|D7 [chorus vocal in]...|C[Chorus main]

Heres the same thing written for the key of C (I hope I've got this right)

C...|Em.[Solo starts]Em7.|F...|Bb/F F..|
F...|C+9/E.C/E.|Bb/D...|..Eb.|Ab...|
Db6/Ab...|C7/G...|Fm...|Db...|....|
G7sus...|G7 [chorus in]...|F[Chorus main]

Hope this helps....
