Yamaha DGX-500

Has anyone played or seen this keyboard yet..? It appears to be an 88 key (non-weighted) version of the PSR-350... I see Yamaha now has it up on their redesigned PK-Club webpage...

Yes I've played it at Winter NAMM. Both the 76 and 88 version were on display. They are both very nice keyboards and look much more expensive then they are selling for. Basically, they are both like the PSR350 but from what I remember, nicer buttons, display and better sounds. These keyboards will be shipping in July or August.

yes, they are lightweight plastic keys, and similar to the previous models except a huge improvement in the looks department. For the money they certainly look as if you are getting a lot of value.
A piano player will not be impressed if expecting a piano like feel, but more mainstream consumers should go for them. The silver and blue screen/buttons do look very swish to me for the price, and the wood effect stand is included, we were told.

yes, the stand is included. Today I got in a new PSR292 keyboard which is like the new DGX-500 but with 61 keys. It has the silver cabinet, the blue display and now, finally, a data wheel aqnd a keypad and a catagory search and inc/dec. buttons. There is even a tap tempo button and a music data base. All this for just over $200.00. Sounds very good and over 600 sounds. No floppy disk and no style creation. Just a nice value for the price. The demo song is Just the Way you Are and it sounds great on this keyboard. The DGX models should do great too.

Are the keys on this board realy full size??
Most Yamaha boards seem to have keys that are slighty smaller then full size.

I think Yamaha's definition of "Full Size Keys" is about 2% smaller than everyone elses! The keys on my PSR630 and PSR2000 are identical in size and definately slightly smaller than either of my older Ensoniq's.

I had that feeling too. I have played several different brands, all full size.

That's a really good point regarding Yamaha's key size.. I think they are slightly smaller. I remember when I had both the Roland XP-60 and Yamaha PSR-540. The Roland had full size semi-weighted keys, and now that I think about it, I always felt a little more cramped when switching from the Roland to the Yamaha... Maybe Yamaha's trying to save a little money...
