OT - Cheap power strips cause fires

News channel just showed a piece about el cheapo power strips causing house fires. They are finding that these cheap power outlet strips, as cheap as $5 are poorly built and cannot handle several devices and they burst into flames. It said beware of any made in China or Taiwan, as they will put a fake UL sticker on there.

Not that your post needs any confirmation, but I have a friend who suffered a serious loss due to fire in a multi-story office building. She was part-owner of the building. Fire investigation traced the source of the fire to a cheap, foreign-made power strip to which some relatively expensive and "high-amperage drain" office equipment was connected.

Sometimes we can be very "penny wise and pound foolish."
