My first T2 recording

My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 10:18 AM

Hi guys, I guess this post is a little overdue but I've got my butt into gear and have done my first ever recording with the T2.
The song is by Enrique Iglesias and is called Hero. This is recorded in 1 take (no re-takes, no overdubs, no midi, no normalisation etc) I just hit record, played and then saved it and bobs your uncle

Song now erased as I'm concentrating doing an album instead.

Craig,
very smooth yet powerful recording; I hear a bit of distortion at times, but maybe that's got to do with the HD recording used? (I say this because I have noticed the same distortion in other people who have recorded directly to the hard disk).
Excellent choice of style and also sounds.
Overall, I would say it's a keeper.

Very, very nice, Craig.
Great style and exceptional registrations as well as a terrific performance.

Pedal steel was a highlight.

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 10:46 AM

Thanks you two. Would converting the 42mb to a 7mb MP3 create any distortion, I used acoustica audio convertor pro? Maybe it's because I didn't normalise it in the T2? any help appreciated as I set the recording level to 70 and I do know it went into the red for 3 seconds when using the sax sound as it's a little louder than the others.
Any feedback appreciated so I can make any adjustments for my next installment - cheers

hi craig cant say any more but brilliant & about time i would just like to say bring your recording level to 50 that should be enough thank m8

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 11:44 AM

Thanks guys. I can't hear any distortion at all myself and quite a few others have said there is none, so I'm keeping my level set at 70 Willie but thanks for the suggestion.
Waiting for you to post a song Willie, set it above 50 though as 50 is far too low.

Bro' Craig! 'Spot on' instrumental rendition of "Hero"! Enjoyed your live playing style & impressive custom auto accomp style work. I also like the pedal steel bends via pitch bend wheel while simultaneously playing LH in auto accomp mode too. Bro', you've made me proud. - Scott

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 12:11 PM

Very nice - enjoyed the first half especially!

Why didn't you use one of the new SA saxes instead of the old one?

Dreamer --
I think the problem is your speakers, because I'm listening to this on a good set of studio speakers (which would normally emphasize distortion), and there is none.

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 12:15 PM

chony the sax used is actually a 4mb WAV loaded into the T2 and not a new SA or old one, it actually sounds far better than the SA sax in the T2 to my ears and I fancied using that instead m8.

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 01:39 PM

Listening again to the original file... don't know if are the speakers, but I can hear a little distortion on the bass note at about 1:10 and on some of the piano notes at about 1:38. I have a Cambridge 5:1 System with a subwoofer.
The sax is just beautiful! Where did you get it from?

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/11/06 02:03 PM

Hi dreamer must be your speakers m8, just listened to those timings and it's a C bass at both the times quoted which is the lowest bass note in the song but it certainly doesn't distort through Logitech Z5500's.
Also loaded the MP3 into some music software packages to check the levels just in case and it doesn't clip, checked with Bose headphones and no probs
The sax is a WAV edited by myself using the PC software then saved as a TVN. The style is also a custom one, the piano sounds, strings, Blackpool Tower theatre organ are all my own created sounds (TVN), only thing that is a preset is the bass and pedal steel guitar which was layered to right 1 and 2, the drums have also been edited. Everything saved into the 8 reg buttons and called up live whilst playing. Only thing I forgot to include in the song was my own multipad near the end (latin drum sounds), like a fart I didn't turn it on lmao

Hi Craig

That was great in every aspect. Nice song, nice choice of instruments, nice phrasing, great sounding instrument, etc, etc. Bravo!

P.S. Bob isn't my uncle Boy, that's a new one on me. I caught the drift, but it sure sounds funny to me. OK, I won't pick on your slang anymore

Nice one Craig,

I like the Sax voice you used especially in the lower register. How did you create this? From a sample CD - if so, how do you do it?

Good recording, especialy fore a single take.

Keep up he good work M8 - Regards from sunny Brighton.

Re: My first T2 recording - 08/12/06 03:01 AM

Thanks for all the kind words and comments.
I'm going to record more songs now I've finally used the hard drive recording facility (after 9 months lol).
KFingers The sax is actually a WAV that I had and reworked in the voice editor software. I agree that it sounds better in the lower range for some songs, so I think I will use this again on another song played lower down. It was the first time I had actually loaded this sound into the T2 and wasn't sure how it would sound until I actually heard the recording played back. On the upper note range I've programmed the key velocity to trigger a slight gain boost. You can set up velocity to trigger all sorts of things, even a pitch bend although I still prefer to use the wheel for all my bends
I would say to anyone with a T2 to experiment with the voice editor as you can really go to town with the effects and different parameters on there.
