Yamaha XG 100 Soft Synth - 11/08/01 08:18 AM

Does anyone know how I can play all the patches from Cakewalk for the Yamaha XG 100 Soft Synth, not just the GM patches. Thank you.

Now thats a good question. If I had a patch and bank list it would be fine but it doesn't seem to have one. On the XG website there are listings of one of the Yamaha MU modules and if they correspond that could be used. Then its a case on selecting the correct patch and bank msb and lsb numbers On my sequencer). In Cakewalk perhaps you could see if there is a instrument definition included for the MU10? or is it 50 or 80?? and see if the voices sound OK.

I have the patch lists for all of those via XG works software. I doubt the format would work in Cakewalk, but maybe you could make your own patch file up if you read what is in the XG works patch files on a word processor. ( I can read them in wordpad just fine ). I don't know if any of this wuill help, but if you think it might, I'd be happy to send you the patch lists. Email m`e if you'd like.

I had a good look with my Cakewalk Pro Audio 8 demo. After selecting the soft synth as the output port I assigned the channels to the Yamaha XG instruments from the track properties screen. And then I had a look at the bank listings and here all the instruments were listed for aprroximately 550 voices. It's not the full 676 but I'm not sure what that refers to - theres a full XG listing here as well
http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/reading/index.html

in the specifications pdf and that has a similar number of voices.

I selected the XG 100 Soft Synth as the output port, but I can't find any banks listed. Any ideas? Seems hard to perform without an INS file.
