digital recorder - 11/13/05 10:58 AM

Is a digital recorder with USB capability good enough to burn cd's (burner on my computer) and make mp3 files to send to the group. I was thinking a Boss 864 or similar. Suggestions appreciated. I do not want to just do computer recording. Thanks

Tascam or Fostex is the best value.

Hi Dan,
I noticed you did some demos on a Zoom, which sounded good. What used gear do you have?

I just bought one of these Tascams. An impressive unit, or the DP01FX/CD if you want the builtin CD burner.

While I do prefer hardware that doesn't rely on a computer recording directly on a computer works fine and software like Audacity is available for free so you can't beat the price. The result is no different really if you already have a good quality audio card in your computer.

But I do understand the preference for a stand alone recorder if you are intending to record away from your computer setup. But if I was recording at home then buying a good quality computer audio interface is by far the cheapest option.
