PSR 2100 and KN6500

Hello my forumer friends,

After hearing a lot of appriciation I have orederd a new PSR2100,which i hopeful will
be a good companion to my KN6500,whit which
i have fallen in love.
Though the only thing wich got my attention
towards 2100 is its sweet, cool and live voices cus i used to have 9000.I am sure my
re-entrence in the word of yamaha would not
make me disappointed as i was with 9000 and
8000.both boards have very poor sequencer.
AANNDD my 6500 has a great one.So guys wish
me a good luck for my bucks and pleasure with
2100.

Good luck on your PSR2100. I have a KN7000 which I love...except for the weight that is. I just ordered a PSR550 that weighs only 19 pounds for a second keyboard.

I haven't had a Yamaha keyboard since I owned a PSR6300 a million years ago. I hope it works out!

Shakeel... if you disliked PSR9000 because of it's poor sequencer, you are going to hate PSR2100.

Forget the sequencer. The sounds that come out of the 2000 are incredible, and from what I've heard, the 2100 is a couple steps above. Additionally, you can download a ton of great, new and exciting styles from www.psrtutorial.com .

Shakil,i think we not only have a common name but also share a common problem of
sequencer.But 6500 comes to my satifaction
it is realy a great board.Getting a 2100 is
only for the sake of its sounds and styles.
Because i know yamaha deos not understand
the real spirit behind a sequencer.So in this regard my vote goes to Technics.
(R u listening Yamaha).

I hated the sequencer on my 9000 pro, also. Recently I got a software sequencer YamahaXG Works, and it's great. Only problem is I think Yamaha have discontinued it ( WHY!!!) There may still be the odd copy available.

It works really well with my 9000 pro styles. Simple as , type in Chord Progression, Choose & type in Style Parts ( Intro, main etc) Expand the arrangement into midi tracks. From there I can edit the tracks and add extra tracks like melody etc.
Bit like Band in Box except you're using Yamaha .sty files. This is the most exciting part of the sequencer for me. Of course it has all normal sequencer functions as well.

Not sure if it would work with the PSR2100 styles. I suppose it would depend if the styles have the .sty extension.

Shakeel... well for sounds, you might be better off with a MOTIF Rack or even the XV5050. Think about it.

Working on XG which runs on computer seems
to me a somhow machanical thing rather than
recording in a smooth natural way.BTW i
prefer sonar if i had work on computer.

Dear Shakil, sorry i dont want to go back
to the world of synths.I like arrangers now,
which are over taking synths,if not yet,will
be soon.

The sequencer topic is my favorite. My Korg i30 also has a great sequencer. I don't have time to build sequences with computer software. Besides some of the styles on keyboards are very good and I use them to play my sax.

If you just sing and play keyboard, the sequencer is not necessary. But for a horn player etc. the sequencer is a necessity.

If the sequencers were better on keyboards and easier to use, I wonder how many horn players or guitar players would get hooked on one and want to do one man band gigs too. It seems that a lot more of a market would be available if horn men were taught to use the sequencer on keyboards.

All of the best horn players I ever knew were very knowledgable of and able to play chords on a piano. Like I said the arranger people could creat a much larger market with a little education to horn musicans and improve on the onboard sequencers of arrangers.

I also used to have i30.The seq section of
this board is good but not excellent like
kn6500.The i30 does not provide punch in and
out in the easy rec mode,which i think is
the heart of any seq,because we more often use accompaniments in our recordings,rather
than making traks one by one.The fx section
is not up to the mark,i think.

I tend to think the KN's have one of the best onboard sequencers around. I also have a kn7 as well as the 9000 pro. That's why I was so pleased when I found that xg works would allowed me to do arrangements using the psr styles. Only takes a few minutes to do an arrangement. I don't actually record from keyboard to computer as I don't have the musical ability to create arrangements, track by track, I use psr styles ( the program has inbuilt styles as well) within xg works to create backing tracks ( similar method to Band in Box). When the arrangement is complete, I save them as a midifile then use them in my 9000pro and play along, or record them to sd card as an audio file(mp3) and use them as a backing track in the kn7 and play along.

My i30 has punch-in-punch-out record. I've never used it. I just record over which ever bar I need to straighten up. Easy as falling of a log when using the styles to do a sequence.
