Playing TYROS 2 with ONE Speaker STINKS !! - 06/14/06 04:59 AM

I'm sorry to report that I still feel this way after many attempts to test out my theory on playing the Tyros in Stereo (2 speakers) vs Mono (1 speaker)....there is a huge loss in sound reproduction....its simply not the same to my ears on stage....use two speakers, put on headphones its awesome//////the T2 stereo sample sounds are just that and made to be played in Stereo.....sorry for my morning rant this is a pet peeve of mine

Scott I have to agree 100% with you....
& its not only with the Live Stereo Grand Piano, Electric Pianos, etc etc but with many other sounds & in some cases Styles also regarding the way they are made & panned.

Dnj,
I totally understand where you're coming from. It's not just the T2. Synths and arrangers have so many "stereo samples' now. It's not like the old days of "mono" sounds. Even with my synths when I go through a mono set up (even just using acoustic sounds) WOW!--what a loss in sound quality....

I think that's also why there are so many complaints when keyboardists are playing with a group, and they use a single speaker amp. The sound just doesn't "cut" through the way it used to. That nice stereo grand preset is shattered through the mono system. (plus these stereo samples are big poly eaters as well--which is why the poly is up to 128 on the big dogs now

Re: Playing TYROS 2 with ONE Speaker STINKS !! - 06/14/06 07:32 AM

Im glad I have two different Stereo setups

[2] Powered Mackie 450's for big gigs

[2] Bose 161's w/T2 Sub] for the smaller gigs

If I don't keep playing in Stereo I'll end up selling the T2 out of depression in sound quality ;( So from now on its Stereo all the way

Squeak.....I totally agree with your assessments!

Pose......do they make different color duck tape to match the T2?

Scott, did you get to try the T2 with Bose PAS yet?
I am very happy with the sound, and so are my customers.

None of my boards ( Motif ES, PA80, MZ2000 ) sound particularly good to me when played in mono. Come to think of it, neither do most of my Vst instruments.

Donny, you didn't answer my question. Did you try the T2 with Bose PAS? Not PSR 3000, not Tyros 1, but Tyros 2.
Thanks,

Don yes I did play the T2 with the PAS but only in AJ's lab.........Don, I know what the PAS is capable of from personal experience performing with it ....but now its not an option & I just love to play in Stereo with two speakers ....with the T2 I can't compromise.....if your happy with your sound I'm happy for you buddy!

I agree with you. Especially on the piano sample - it is horrible in mono. When I use my own sound system, it is not a problem, as it is a stereo system. However sometimes I use in house systems - which can even be extremely good and expensive systems, but for some reason are mono.

Has anyone come up with a solution to the T2 stereo problem vs mono?

Has Scott bought the Bose PAS yet or is he sticking with the Stereo 2 powered EV speaker system?

Stereo \ Mono.
Just think about it....Would you buy a 6 cylinder car and only run it on 3 cylinders ?.

The Bose L1 is far more sophisticated than stereo. It's hard to explain, but I have A-B'd them on several occasions and the Bose totally blows away the stereo setups. You have to experience it.

Wow .... after all this time, and this topic is still hot.
I STILL play a psr3k trough a Bose and I have no intention of changing anytime soon. I've been walking through store after store and nothing makes me want to change yet.
That does NOT sound like me!

Yay Bose!

Re: Playing TYROS 2 with ONE Speaker STINKS !! - 08/30/06 09:06 AM

I recently was asked to provide live music and a sound system for a talent show at a local fraternal organization. I was expecting to accompany singers & dancers and run everything through the Bose L1. Then the surprise...most of the talent were Karaoke singers who wanted to use their own discs and needed a video monitor. Not my bag.

The solution: The club had a Karaoke Jockey in the earlier part of the evening and he agreed to move from the bar to the big room and set his stuff up on the stage with my gear. He had two large cabinets, powered mixer, a LT and one video monitor.

For the show, we used both systems. All the Karoke discs and his Crown mic ran through his system.

My Crown, PSR 3K and two handheld mics for singers ran into my Alesis mixer, then into the Bose power stand.

The results:
No problems when I played and singers sang to my live accomp. I could hear the mix perfectly and adjust levels for the different talents' voices almost seamlessly.

When K singers sang through the Bose and accomp was coming from the KJ's system there were audible complaints from the audience about the music being too loud or not loud enough. While some of the singers were out of tune or tempo their lyrics came through just fine when not overpowered by the music.

The K jockey became visibly frustrated riding the levels and even made a comment to the audience about not being able to please everyone. The guy was a very good singer, but when he sang through his own system he encountered occasional feedback and tended to lose the lyrics in the mix.

It was a difficult room in that in that it was L shaped. Back when I was using a conventional system, I had problems in the room to. But, that all disapeared when I got the Bose.

This was as close as I have come to A-B'ing the Bose with a conventional system and the differences were v-e-r-y noticable, even to the audience.

Some people are slooooooowwwww learners.
The Bose tower is the best investment I ever made in a piece of musical gear.
