The Best Sound I've Ever Heard

The Best Sound I've Ever Heard - 05/14/03 04:20 PM

I recently went to a classical/fusion jazz quartet concert. The system sound was a pair of SR1530 Mackies (+ a Makie mixer). These are tri-amped 15'' speakers, and the sound is absolutely amazing, nearly studio quality: well balanced, punchy, and crystal clear. They are heavy for us, solo guys. I wish there was something close in quality but lightweight... http://www.mackie.com/products/sr1530/index.html

I have the Mackie 808S powered mixer and the 300i 2-way speakers. The PA is very clean and sensitive. The speakers can handle everything I can throw at them. I used to have TOA 3-ways which were very nice, but I find my 300i's to be just as good and a lot lighter and more compact. Possibly some EV SX200's would work too.

Cass, I don't think the speakers you mention are in the same leauge as the Mackie SR1530[unless my ears deceive me]..

I use a pair of Mackie 1530's with SA1500 subs and a CFX 16 mixer (on my own!). Yepp, they're heavy, but the sound, like you describe, is fantastic. Like Fran says, these are in a separate leauge to most two-way systems.

royandreno,

do you have to put them [1530's] up on poles or is the floor enough?

Roy-Andrè, Do you play (and carry your stuff) solo?? -- José.

Donny: In the concert they were directly on the floor. I suspect that they are too bulky and heavy to be used on "normal" speaker stands. -- José.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I work a lot at the moment doing my pilot stuff.
Anyway, back to the fun; music!
The 1530's cannot be pole mounted, I place mine on top of the subs, the 1500's.
Matias,
yes I carry them myself, but only up stairs. I use a trolly most of the time. They keep me in shape!
The PA sounds great, and I have a hard time going down on weight for a smaller PA.
I only do 60-70 gigs, wooops sorry, jobs, per year.

Hey Fran,
I won't argue about the diference in sound, BUT I thought matias was looking for something "close in quality but lightweight." We could always suggest some EAWs too, but who wants to lug those around and have an empty pocketbook to boot ($1750 each).
