Portable recorder? - 05/20/05 03:59 AM

Hi all,
This is maybe no tht ecorrect forum for this, but I need some advice on portable recorders. I have read about the Edirol R1 portable flash recorder, but want to be able to record more. Does anyone know if the harddisk based MP3 recorders are not good as the Edirol R-1? Any help would be apreciated! Many thanks!

I use a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox 3 to record myself live. It works great, but is stereo only, no multitracking. You can record in WAV or MP3 format.

You might want to take a look at some of Tascam's products, like :

Hi,
I am not interested in multitrack recording, just stereo recording and want to have more storage than the Compact flash players have. DonM, how is the quality on that Jukebox? Can you record 44.1 kHz wav files?

Yes, I routinely use 44.1 Wav format. You can use 11.025, 22.05, 44.1, or 48, or MP3 encoding from 64 to 320.
The unit comes with software interface to upload and download from PC via USB.
You can buy rebuilt units from Creative via Ebay for around $150.!
I record on mine using the internal battery. It will easily record a 4-5 hour job. Also, you can add an additional battery to double the time. I haven't found it necessary. It comes with an AC/recharger cord. DC/recharger is inexpensive. I listen to mine on the way home every night in the van.
I also use it sometimes to play MP3s during breaks.
