My 2nd impression of the G70 ;)

My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/20/06 01:04 PM

I went back to Medley Music again..this time I brought my sidekick with me[Donny}..

Giving that I already spent a few hours prior[last week]..I was able to help Donny get started and check out the things he was most interested in....funny thing, while looking over Donny's shoulder[he was hogging the play time], I was able to explore more options and features. Namely edits, make and cover features, one touch features, and most important to me the control of every aspect of the G70 using the sliders as data controllers..

Diki was right, getting into the operating system[even though menu driven] is really easy to use,,After another 2-3 hours, we were to a point..Go out and do a job[without fear]....right out of the box..
The possibilities are endless with this board..
As for the sounds..even though I know many of the sounds from my DisCover5...they are without a doubt...audibly better coming from the G70..I am not sure why..but they are!!!

There is not a weakness on this board..Everything it does..It does..Great..

Before we finally left the store, we were flying around on the G70 like it has been with us for months..

Donny had a look of amazement on his face when he used the vocal harmonizer...Believe me it is that good!!!

The styles as mentioned before are the best I have heard or used...Access to changes with makeup and cover tools is like having 30 or more variations with in a single style.

I also would like to add..This G70 performed flawlessly..no glitches or unwanted sounds...

Gone from realtime arranger play and sequence play is as quick and easy as the G1000....The overall sound quality is no contest..the G70 is far superior to the G1000...[does this give you an idea how much I love this board ]...

I will leave some topics for Donny to comment on late tonight[after his Dance Party]..

If he doesn't get to some of the other"I want it now" features , I will elaborate more....

I want one, I don't think I will wait to check out the E80....

Hi Fran

Your right. Thats what a couple of G-70 owners including my self, have tried to tell the SZ members the last year. The G-70 is a super keyboard.
I have played the Tyros2 for 2 months now and its a very good sounding keyboard, but the G-70 is the winner.

Craig as Chas eluded to "b. when I have the money"....No part change here though...The G1000 still has a home...Even when I get the G70.

When we had our second child , we still kept the first..same with our 3rd and 4th....See, they call that a family...

The 1st cousin will be available though[DisCover 5].......

Fran's in love. Happy you've finally found (at last) a keyboard which pleases you (as much?) as the G1000 has. Ok, time to go make music and record a song on the G70 for us to hear. Congratulations. - Scott

Fran its a pity it doesnt havd dedicated buttons for each fill in. One nice thing about it is u can add an srx board. I hope u get one soon.

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/20/06 02:23 PM

Roland Fan ..it does, by pushing the same button as the variation will trigger dedicated fills .

Scott, I will have to be patient[funds] I am still completing a $90,000 addition to my home...

Maybe I should start a benefit.."Help Fran get a G70"..

Chas, it's not that I am always in your "b" group. I go through as many keyboards as anyone I know...for more than 20 years..
I just set priorities, and do what ever I want..

So when does Donny expect to pick up his G-70, and is his T2 on Ebay yet?

Hmmm. Uncle Dave's no longer selling cars, so . . . let me see, who's swapping who's (Donny, Fran, UD's ) current keyboard(s), and who ends up with the G-70?! - Scott

Fran

Glad to hear you enjoyed the G70. It peaks my interest to go out and test drive one.

So, it only took 2 tries to get into it. I can relate to that scenario. It took me 3 tries on the Tyros 1 before I knew I had to have it and 2 tries on the Tyros 2.

Hey, it's fun gettin new toys, hey?

Ha!!....... Vindication!

Fran, don't sell your G1000 when you buy the G70...... I am working on a way to use the chord Sequencer in the G1000 to drive the G70's styles. Stay tuned.........

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/20/06 07:19 PM

Diki..so let me understand this..you are working on a way to use a 41 pound chord sequencer with the 45 pound G70..

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/20/06 10:28 PM

Today Fran & I had a ball demoing the Roland G70.....I was a little reserved and curious at first.....but that quickly disappeared when looked at the dark grey G70 in person & I sat down & started to play it.....I was really impressed at the quality of the G70...solid build all the way thru....touch screen worked perfect and accurate.....within 10 minutes I was on my way to navigating the G70 with no problems.....this KB can do it all & do it all VERY WELL I might add...
The vocalizer is absolutely the best I ever heard in a KB on par with the likes of TC Helicon or Digitec for sure, unbelievable and NEUTRIK mic hookup,!! I went thru the styles and sounds without a hitch.....buttons are rugged, fills and intro/ending are excellent so many variations & combinations to use too. Screen bright and clear and colorful too. The operating system is so easy to get around on and makes so much sense especially during LIVE PLAY....you can really do just about anything regarding editing very fast & the sliders make it a snap to adjust parameters....Pianos sound terrific in stereo & in mono I tried both ways........the organs are simply OUTSTANDING best Hammond sound Ive heard in a long time gritty raw and full of punch using the draw-bars makes it so simple to adjust....I found that the guitars really are on par with the top arrangers out there & then you add the Guitar mode feature really brings it over the top....the saxes were wonderful also....as were many others Trumpet shake Brass etc etc ....
76 keys, what can I say I love it when playing? great key-feel too.. Sequencer is so easy to use and does its job right....no hand claps on SMF snare drums ....instant start , search , play, etc.. makeup tool, Cover tool are so useful and give you unlimited variations in REAL TIME...I will post more when I get time its very late ....but all I can say is there is so much involved within the G70, too much to list here .......bottom line I was very impressed, & many of MY NEEDS were addressed and met with this unit....once you set this baby up & make it your own you will have a very powerful instrument to perform with beyond your wildest dreams ...more to come!

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/20/06 11:03 PM

Donny, how do you compare the G70 with Tyros2? Which one fits YOUR needs better?

1) How did the actual instrument voices sound? Which were your fav and least fav? Did any of them sound 'overly bathed' in reverb, as was reported (even with OS2) by some other people (including myself) here.

2) How did the STYLES (in comparison with Tyros2's) sound? Which one's were standouts & which (if any) sounded lackluster?

3) I only assume you appreciated the terrific 76 note keyfeel as much as I did. How do you rate the G70's Color LCD screen viewability (brightness & sharpness) compared to Tyros2? Do you think screen(fixed or tiltable?) visability & clarity good for outdoor daylight gigs? This is one drawbar with T2 I'm not happy with, at least (on T2) we have the option of a widely tiltable LARGE color screen to help with this.

Ok Donny: looking forward a full candidly honest G70 report from you.

Scott

PS: Thanks for sending me the pic of you playing the G70 today.

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/20/06 11:20 PM

Better a 41lb chord sequencer than none at all.......

Actually, if I can get this to work, I will be looking HARD for an RA-800.

I guess my problem is, other than piano or organ, I can't play any solo sound without wanting to 'bend it like Beckham'!....... I just can't...... A solo without inflection is just too machine-like for me, and how the hell do you use the bender if your left hand is always playing chords??

We tried to explain you all during the passed year how good the G70 is with all these fine facilities and there was just a very little support.
With we I mean Nielsh, Weisefar ,Diki K.Boarder, Ironhill, myself and many more. We were allways attacked and even insulted. But now we see the Roland G70 gets more appreciated and we are happy with it.
Many of the Rolandusers left this forum and joined the Danish G70 userssite.
There were a few real Rolandhaters with too much support.
Now we see the G70 is a great musicalinstrument for many good musical hours on stage and at home.
The best support for you and your G70 you will find on http://www.selskabsmusikeren.dk/ This site is down at this moment but shall be back soon.

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/21/06 05:44 AM

Donny, glad you liked it so much, BUT, remember you were EQUALLY ecstatic about the T2, and before that the Midjay and before that. . .
Let me know how you like it after toting it around for a couple of months.
Remember that the G70 doesn't scroll text files, at least yet. It also doesn't have designated individual intro/ending/fill buttons.
If anyone has any decent Country styles for it, HankB would like to have them. A simple 2/4 Country shoddish, a CW shuffle with walking bass option, etc.

Re: My 2nd impression of the G70 ;) - 07/21/06 07:08 AM

Don the things you mention are your concerns not mine....we all have different needs.Of course I'm ecstatic on the G70 its an awesome unit that addresses so many of MY needs that the T2 DOES NOT as a Player & weight is NOT an issue with me. I also rarely use TXT files....& if I do I have my laptop for that purpose. G70 SMF playback & navagation is far superior also. On board navigation is in another league thru knobs and sliders & touch screen....and most of all the G70 Vocalize is light years ahead of the T2 IMO. I'll be much more ecstatic when the G70 arrives here next week.

Thanks Donny and Fran for sharing your experiences with this board. I really like the idea of having an excellent harmonizer onboard along with the extra keys, things that I don't have right now.. I guess I'll be traveling once more Alto Music to "side by side" the T2 and the G70.
