Does anyone know how to open a foot switch? - 12/05/05 02:56 PM

I must have stomped on my pedal too hard, as the foot switch won't respond anymore. I had this problem with a previous foot switch and just adjusted the spring inside. But on this one I can't seem to work out how to open it. Its a PS standard series foot switch: http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=2095&Category=Keyboard_Accessories

Hi Chony,

I have a couple which look very similar. In fact I opened them 6 weeks ago to change the polarity.

I just undid the screws at the side and they pulled apart. Mine had a spring and a microswitch.

Hope this helps.

David.

Thanks. However mine doesn't have screws in the side (well not ones I can take out with a screwdriver anyway.) Chony.

Chony,
sometimes screws are hidden under stickers on the back of the device or sometimes under the plastic/rubber feet. Check around. Place your fingernail on the sticker, apply pressure, move it around and feel, there may be a hole in there.
You mentiond screws that cannot be taken out with a screwdriver, maybe they need a different kind, like torx etc
Hope it helps

Chony,

The hinge pin is the only thing that holds the pedal together. The pin is secured with "C" rings at each end. You must remove one of the "C" rings, then shove the hinge pin through the pedal in order to open it and get to the interior leaf switch. Most of the time a minor adjustment is all that's necessary to get it working again. You may also wish to clean the contacts with a fine grade of Emory paper while you're in there.

Good Luck,

Gary

Thanks all!

Gary, I have the one with the C pin. But I can't figure out how to remove it! Any tips?

Chony,

While there is a special tool for "C" rings, you can remove them with a small screw driver by inserting the tip in the opening and carefully pressing it back. Make sure you keep your finger on the back side of the ring or it will pop off into never, never land. I should know--I've done it a few times.

Good Luck,

Gary

Thanks Gary,

I just did exactly as you said, and it worked ... but I couldn't find any faulty connections or anything anywhere ... so I guess it must have died of old age (though its less than a year old!)

Thank you!
