BBE Sonic Maximizer - 11/29/04 02:50 AM

I have seen quite a few discussions about the Sonic Maximizer in other forums, and wondered if any of you use it.

I use one in the rack and the software version for recording. Actually I used the software version first and liked it so much I bought one for live use.

I am interested in the rack version and whether it would liven up the mix between kb and mixer,or soundcard on laptop and mixer.
Thanks

I chose the rack version after using the software version, and it's easy to operate, 2 dials per channel and to me it makes everything sound better. I've used it live and for DJ work. Usually it is the last thing in the audio chain, when I'm using a biamp system it goes right before the electronic crossover, after the mixer. But I don't use eq's or any other sound processors so to me it is an easy fix.
I have a couple of laptops ( a couple years old) with standard oem soundcards and they sound like garbage, when I use them as synths, the only thing to help them is a new soundcard or a sound module.
I think I may have read the following here,"garbage in garbage out". If you have a good sounding soundcard IMO the BBE will make it sound better.

Thanks for your input. I use an Echo sound card on my laptop which sure improved my midi's,and I use a kn7000 synth also into my mixer. I am adding a Rane equalizer for my outboard speakers. It sounds like I should put the Maximizer after the equalizer.
Do you think this is an overkill ?

I don't use a eq because to me, it is easier to dial in the right sound with the sonic maximizer.
I'd try the BBE alone first and see if that cuts it for ya, it does for me. My mackie mixer has a small eq but that is mostly flat.

I have a DBX Sonic Maximizer that is similar to the BBE. Since I don't use a rack system any more, I don't use it, but it is quite good.
Not that I think of it, it's for sale!
The inexpensive Behringer 122FXPro mixer has an Enhancer as one of the DSP choices. It works pretty well too.

Thank you both
I ordered the 362. While this is not the top of the line,I am sure it will be worth $79. As for the EQ,I will try it with and without as suggested.
