I know a guy who made it all the way. He will be on the show. I say know him... I am acquainted with him. I've met him twice. His name is Shy Blakeman. If nothing else, he has a sensational stage name. Very energetic. Too energetic for my taste but that's what they often go for these days. Dancing around up there like an idiot.

I saw Montgomery-Gentry last week. I was hoping that mic stand that Eddie Montgomery constantly hauls around and twirls would come loose and bang him in the head. Gawd, what a stupid hook. I can't stand to watch him but hey, I got in free.

BTW, I left early... too many songs that sounded alike... and I do like some of their songs. If I leave a concert early, that's not good. Because I love concerts. I also left a ZZ Top concert for the same reason. All sounded the same.

P.S. I was at the mixing board. 110db in the very back. Front? Ugh.

Anyone who subjects their hearing to those insane levels will ultimately suffer servere tinitus. IMO, most performers who set sound levels that high do so in order to cover up their inabilities. I used to play with a country band who's leader frequently would get smashed halfway through the gig, get on the mic and say "We may not be good--but we're loud!" I had the privilege to work with Alabama on a one-day job near home, and in this particular instance I was videotaping their performance for a local TV show. They packed the venue with hundreds of people, never played loud and everyone raved about their performance, and everyone yelled for more.

Ironically, they were followed by a rock band that played so loud I had to constantly ride the recording system's mixer to prevent overdriving the TV audio. Within 10 minutes after they started, most of the crowd had left because they couldn't tolerate the db level.

Montgomery-Gentry is from here in Lexington. Troy Lee Gentry's dad is best friends with a former music partner of mine, Preston Weber. His dad, Lloyd ownes the club where Troy worked before the fame.

The Montgomery guy is John Michael's older brother. That mike thing really looks dorkey, but people around here say he's a big old teddy bear.

Not a country music fan at all, so never really had much to do with any of them.
