Tony, please let me pay for the hard drive.
I just emailed you with the information on where and when I purchased the one that went bad.
Unfortunately it does happen, but as you will see I bought it new in May of 2006.
Talk to later. I'm so relieved that's all it is.

Re: YES!!!YES!!!YES!!! - 01/29/07 03:59 PM

Is there any function on the T2 for putting the drive to sleep? I have always been nervous about pounding away at a keyboard that has a delicate hard drive spinning away inside......

Also, a lot of people transport their light weight arrangers in bags or cases that are anything but rugged and well padded. Most people treat their laptops far more gently, but the drive inside a keyboard is just as delicate, and probably more gig-essential!

Anyway, if there is any way to spin down a hard drive before you play, you have a much reduced possibility of damaging it. A small UPS might also be a good way to prevent brownouts which can also wreak havoc on HDs and other delicate computer components.

I am happy to see more and more keyboards equipped with 50-100MB solid state drives on board. For anything other than audio files, this memory, especially if you can expand it with GB sized memory cards, is MORE than enough for regular arranger usage, and puts to rest any concerns about impact damage to a delicate HD.

I wonder if anyone makes a direct replacement for a HD (laptop or regular sized) that can be used as a plug and play replacement? I know you lose capacity, but gain the benefit of ruggedness.....

Squeak,

Don certainly IS a characture! It's too bad he's from the south.

Re: YES!!!YES!!!YES!!! - 01/29/07 05:59 PM

Tom,

On the other hand, Don never plays golf in the snow!

When it comes to spinning down the hard drive, this feature, to my knowledge, is not available in the T2. Hard drives fail, even when they are not being transported--it's the nature of the beast. Those tiny bearings eventually wear out and the drive goes out of alignment. In reality, there is not a lot you can do about this other than not use the HD. I'm confident that solid state drives will eventually replace HDs and the problems associated with HDs will be eliminated. It's just a matter of time.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi Squeak,
Don's a thorough gentleman.
Sent me one of his Ketron Serial cables, all the way to Aust. as I couldn't buy one here. Wouldn't let me pay for postage or the cable.

More amazing still, I bought his Ketron 13 swithch pedal board. He got a bit of a shock with the overseas postage which I was supposed to pay. From memory, I think he offered to pay half or majority of the postage cost, which I naturally refused, as I didn't want him giving his board away for nothing.
I ended up with a bargain either way, as I would never have been able to buy a second hand one here.

It's great that there are still wonderfull people around.

best wishes
Rikki

Mr. Mason is ACES.
Don epitomizes the character for which the majority of the SZ members are known.
Tony...So glad to hear your problem has been identified and resolved.

Hi Tony,
that's really good news.

Don't know if warranty is the same in USA, but over here it's 12 months parts, 3 months labour.

best wishes

I don't always do the right thing, or say the right thing, but I always TRY to, just as almost everyone of us here does. But thanks for the kind words.
Rikki, somebody gave that cable to me. I think it was Manuel Dorantes, so I was simply "paying it forward".
Tony, Here's the link I emailed to you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D6879901140%26fvi%3D1&item=6879901140&rd= 1

DonM

Sorry, the link is too long to fit, and I'm too tired to fix it tonight.

Hi Don,
even so, you were still kind enough to go out of your way to post it, & it was greatly appreciated.

best wishes
Rikki
& if it was Manuels, thanks to you also.

Gary,

Anyone can play golf in good weather and on green grass. It takes a certain amount of toughness to play with a black ball in the snow. I've been trying to get Don to visit me in Michigan for years now. I guess he's just too soft to endure Michigan's climate.

How about you Gary? You could sail your boat right through the St. Lawrence Seaway to Muskegon.

Tom,

While my 27-foot Catalina is more than capable of making the trip, this old man needs something a bit larger for the Atlantic coastal segment of the voyage. I'll still looking for a 47 to 55 footer, something that will take me to those far away places with strange sounding names. Hmmmmm! Sounds like that would be a good song title.

Cheers,

Gary

Last time I was in Michigan (1973), I got snowed in for a few days. I was befriended by a local beauty and now I can't come back until her irate husband dies.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Gary,

I'm sure there is a country song somewhere titled, "take me to those far away places with strange sounding names". How about it Don?

Don,

Let me know her name and I will find out for you. Do you think she is STILL a beauty?

Name? Nobody asked names in the 70's!
Anyway, most of the story was enhanced with a slight bit of editorial license.
It was Muskegon, btw.

Don,

I'll bet she was only a beauty after a half dozen Jack Danials. What'd she look like the next morning?
