Arranger Keyboard Advice: Obtain a "Service Manual" if possible - 02/28/01 06:18 PM
Hi all,
I had an unfortunate accident (first one) with my Technics KN5000 keyboard the other day, when 3 of the white keys got damaged (chipped) during one of my gigs. The GOOD NEWS was that the only damage sustained was on the three keys themselves. I called Panasonic (Technics) parts department the next day and they sent key replacements (3 keys) out to me overnite. Total cost $12 US dollars including shipping. I was able to easily replace them by removing the keyboard case and popping the old ones out and popping the new ones in. Many thanks to Mr. Walt Tenay for walking me thru the procedure.
What I want to point out in this email is the value of obtaining the official "Service Manual" (not the same thing as the owner's manual) for your keyboard. I purchased the Technics KN5000 service manual a few months back and am I ever glad I did. It contains the complete schematics, list of all the parts, as well as instructions for disassembling the keyboard. Of course I do not recommend working on your keyboard if it is still under manufacterer warranty (as it usually voids the warranty). If I had to take my keyboard to a keyboard repair shop, it would have certainly taken me much longer (days/weeks?) to get my board back up and running. As professional musicians, we certainlyl cannot afford this.
