Lover's Question - 11/07/03 07:03 PM

An old Clyde McPhater tune. Anyone know the lyrics to it.

Oh tell me where
Does the answer lie
Is it in her kisses or in her eyes
It's a lover's question
I like to know

I'd appreciate it friends
Thanks

Boo,

You gotta get out more. Here tis:

A LOVER'S QUESTION
Clyde McPhatter

Does she love me, with all her heart
should I worry, when we're apart
it's a lover's question, I'd like to know.

Does she need me, as she pretends
is this a game, well then will I win
it's a lover's question, I'd like to know

I'd like to know when she's not with me
if she's still true to me
I'd like to know when we're kissing
does she feel just what I feel,
and how am I to know it's really real.

Oh, tell me where, the answer lies
is it in her kiss or in her eyes
it's a lover's question I'd like to know.

I'd like to know when she's not with me
if she's still true to me
I'd like to know when we're kissing
does she feel just what I feel,
and how am I to know it's really real.

Oh, tell me where, the answer lies
is it in her kiss or in her eyes
it's a lover's question I'd like to know.

Enjoy,

Gary

Gary,

I'm gonna just start emailing you for lyrics to the 50's stuff. These kids Dave, Donny and Scott never heard these tunes before. DonM's an old fart like us, but he's best for the country stuff I want to do.

You is the old R&R man. We probably do all of the same old tunes. Do you do "Someday" by smiley Lewis? It's around the Lover's question and bluberryhill time frame.

Donny,

Believe it or not before I post for lyrics here I search 3 or 4 sites. I couldn't find It's a lover's question anywhere. Another I'm looking for is "Don't break your promise to me".

Don't Break Your Promise to Me

(Don't break your promise me)
(you told me that you love me girl you love me)
(Promises are made to keep ooo ooo ooo ooo)
I tried to be your knight in shinin' armor
Dream come true you sweet lovin' charmer
I did all the things you asked me to
(you said our love would never ever change)
Our feelings would remain the same)
(So why you wanna leave me) WHY
( Don't break your promise me) don't break your promise to me baby
(you told me that you love me girl you love me)
You know I want your love so bad baby yes I do darlin'
(Promises are made to keep ooo ooo ooo ooo)
Like a story book love you showered with affection
You gave me diamonds and furs and all your worldly possessions
you did it all to keep me happy
knowing I'd be here right here with you
(I guess there's a lesson to be learned)
the pages of love have turned)
(I'm the one who needs your love) whoa
( Don't break your promise me)
(you told me that you love me girl you love me)
(Promises are made to keep ooo ooo ooo ooo)

We built a dream we thought would last forever
Our love has been tried and tested and been through much stormy weather
but if it takes me to push my pride aside I'll get down upon my knees and with no hesitation I'll say baby please baby please don't go.

(Don't break your promise)
now a promise is supposed to be sacred thing
when two people share that magic moment oo yeah
words that mean alot are soon forgotten baby wooo
how I wish they were never never never spoken
I needed your love, I needed you here
oh I had so much love to give
but you took that love for granted yes you did
without giving it a chance to grow and grow and grow
(don't break your promise to me)
(don't break your promise to me)
(don't break your promise to me)

I can't recall Someday by Smiley Lewis. He did a lot of songs back then, but the one that comes to mind first was "I Hear You Knockin'", which was later done by another artist. I'll have to do some digging for that one.

I have "I Hear You Knockin'" by Fats Domino, if that's the one you mean.

Little Richard did one, Fats another. The fats version is here - but I bet DonM's version is miles better. http://www.smickandsmodoo.com/aaa/lyrics/knocking.htm

Lover's Question was done very well by Loggins and Messina. That was my first intro to that tune. I always thought I'd be a great third partner in that band. Our voices blended well together. House at Pooh corner was the inspiration for naming my first child. (no, not POOH ... Christopher ! )

Re: Lover's Question - 11/08/03 08:17 PM

Donny it goes like this

You once said you could never love another
And there'd never be another one like me
Your so strange now please don't you change now
Don't break your promise to me(Now I'll jump to the bridge)

I remember when I met you
And you said it t'was me you'd always love
Now l'm willing dear to bet you
It's not me that you're dreaming of

Gary,
What about:

(So this is the garden of eden
And here on the threshold we stand)

I think the name of the tune is "Hold My Hand"

Would you know it and who sang it in the early 50's or may be even the late 40's?

Eddie

Little Richard's song is completey different. It just has the same title.

Re: Lover's Question - 11/09/03 06:41 AM

Little Richard's song was "I Hear You Knockin' But You Can't Come In."

Now that I think of it, there were not many more words in Little Richard's song. "Come back tomorrow night and try it again."

Wow! Strange things in my mind lately,

Re: Lover's Question - 11/10/03 08:03 AM

Little Richard's line was:

"You keep a-knockin' but you can't come in,
Come back tomorrow night and try it again"

though that wasn't the title as I recall. Maybe the actual title was Keep A-Knocking (just my guess). As for Smiley Lewis' "I Hear You Knocking", that was covered around 1971 by Dave Edmunds.

Talking of knocking, how 'bout "Don't Knock the Rock" - remember the old Bill Haley movie? Little Richard was in that, too.
