drums & styles 740 - 12/18/99 08:33 PM

does anyone agree with me that the drums on 740 are MUCH more realistic than on 8000?
Is it possible to copy the x1 styles to a floppy disk and then use them on the 740? Isn't it a great idea if it's possible? And what about copyright?

I have not used Yamaha PSR740 nor PSR8000 and so am not able to answer your first question. About using X1 styles on PSR740 you cannot use X1 styles directly on PSR740 because they are stored in different format. To port X1 styles to PSR740 you have to either use an expensive software called EMC StyleWorks (http://www.internet-stadt.com/tastenshop/) to convert Solton styles to Yamaha styles first. Or you can buy a USB style CD for Yamaha, it is just released and should contain Roland, Korg, Technics, General Music, Yamaha and Solton styles {should be over 3000 styles) and costs about $120.

Thank you Paul. Maybe there is a cheaper way to copy those styles? e.g. Have someone do it for me etc..
Thanx

I guess that I ask a lot of questions, but anyone has an opinion on the sound of a psr740 through JBL EON15 powerd speakers?
They are supposed to be very clear/crisp sounding speakers.
Thank you

P.S. I never heard that combination. I'm asking if someone else heard it.

I hooked up my friend's 740 through my 2 JBL powered Eon 15's so he could hear what it really sounds like. It sounded great. Not as great as the X1, but then nothing much does.
I used a Mackie 1202 mixer, but very little e.q. was necessary. The mixer allows you to control the keyboard volume if you set it close to you. The 740 volume knob does not affect the line outs, so you have to do it this way, or assign the volume pedal and use that. I prefer the volume pedal be assigned to the lead voice. You could also control volume by adjusting the speakers' input, but not practical to do that during a performance. The Mackie has XLR balanced outputs and you just use standard mic cords from the mixer to the Eons.
The seperate amps for bass and high-end really brings the keyboard to life.
