Very nice demos. I didn't like the brass in the 1st demo, but everything else sounded 1st rate.

The drums sounded nice!

They sound very nice, but still my problem with these KB is the fact that they have only 120 styles. My 1989 psr 2500 has 100. That meens only 2-3 styles the most for each genre. hmmm

Re: E50/60 DEMOS - 06/27/06 10:29 PM

If the demos sounded good, Ian, why worry too much about the polyphony? It obviously was adequate enough for the demos..........

The cover function (which basically completely re-voices a style in one of several sound-sets - imagine a pop style completely changed to jazz sounds and kits with one button, or rock to techno, etc.) can dramatically increase the apparent number of onboard styles, plus 16MB onboard storage AND a PCMCIA slot, and compatibility with previous generation Roland styles (AND the easiest editing of styles of ANY arranger) should make that a moot point, KeybG............

A greater problem I see is Roland rarely ever tell you if you are listening to a 'tweaked' SMF of a Style or live play or a totally sequenced SMF........... To my ears (I have a G70) these sound like 'tweaked' or edited recordings of style play with the solo added later - I could be wrong, YMMV, Objects in Mirror may be closer than they appear.........

But......... still pretty good, eh??

Korg's flagship arranger PA1X has 62-notes polyphony and nobody seems to worry too much about it.
Why should Roland worry if they have 64-notes in a cheaper line of arrangers?

Re: E50/60 DEMOS - 06/28/06 03:49 AM

I posted links to some of the demos a few weeks ago. It looks like the E80 will not be out until about August time according to UK retailers. Roland are certainly keeping quiet when it comes to online demos. There's only 3 or 4 for the E80 plus a small video, then these for the E50/E60.
I'm sure they'll deliver what we all want to see and hear soon.

That's a conicidence. I was asking myself that question last night (I wonder if it's easier to create styles on a Roland keyboard?), and Diki answered the question. Can you expand on that. Why is it easier?

Yes, but Roland's 76 note keyboard is out 1st, and will be all alone in the market place for a year before the PSR3100-76 comes out.

Re: E50/60 DEMOS - 06/28/06 07:58 AM

Roland's top of the line G70/E80 have 128 voice polyphony (and incredibly fast latency), so rather than compare apples to apples, Ian, you put Roland's mid-line arranger against the $4000 Tyros2...........?

Sorry I took you for worried, I guess I meant 'don't get disappointed!'......... for that, you need to wait and see what Yamaha will drop from the Tyros2 feature set to make the new 3k fit the market price. We'll see...........

I guess my point is......... most Roland demos seem to get greeted by 'Sounds fantastic - very disappointing!!'. Isn't 'sounds fantastic' enough for you guys??????

If Roland can make it sound that good, there's only one reason if you can't...........

Re: E50/60 DEMOS - 06/28/06 08:15 AM

Starkeeper......... sorry, but I posted about how easy it is to EDIT styles on Roland arrangers, not create them. I don't have much experience doing that, so can't really comment about that, BUT............

When it comes to quickly editing a style imported from a different Roland arranger, or tweaking a built in style, or getting a converted style to work well with the Roland's soundset, I believe the Roland's Makeup system has no equal.

Try one, and bring an old Roland style in on a floppy, and spend a bit of time seeing how easy the Makeup section makes changing sounds and volumes, and velocity (probably the most important thing for making a pattern work well on a different sound than it was written for), voice editing and drum re-mapping (amongst many other things).

Most of us have large libraries of older styles we have gotten used to, and would like to bring into our newer purchases, but if the process of tweaking them to sound good is so hard and tedious, we probably never get around to it. Ease of editing styles and SMFs is one of the 'invisible' features that few of us investigate deeply BEFORE we buy, but realize how important they are AFTER the fact..........

I only paid $2500.00 for my Tyros2. Did they go up in price?

That Cool Blues demo sounded pretty good. Only 19.4 lbs makes it sound even better. This might be a fun kb to have along with my Tyros2. I had the E35 and thought it was rather outstanding at the time.

Does anyone know the price of the E50 yet?

Re: E50/60 DEMOS - 06/28/06 03:51 PM

I'm farily certain it was priced here before around the $1100-$1300 price range. Could be wrong though.

It's a tempting keyboard (in my opinion). I've been considering adding a (mid-end) arranger to my synths. The E50's on my list for consideration.
