PSR2000 is exellent but I wany more... - 11/26/03 12:14 PM

I downloaded few videos of different types of KB´s and I really must say this:

Allthough I´m extremely happy with my psr2k I still feel there is something missing.. So looks like I´m upgrading my KB sometimes when I got the money...

Propably will stick with Yamaha and all I´ve heard, seen and read so far it might be Tyros or next generation Tyros when it comes out.

And reason for this is simply this: I thought I don´t need all there is in these top models. HA! I´m not a pro, I don´t do any gigs anymore but anyway I need quite near perfection at home. Or so I think...

Psr2100 is so near Psr2000 so I don´t think that would do the trick. What I know there is only few minor upgrades, nothing major I´m looking for, like richer sound ect, and I allways wanted only the best. This is first time it looks possible.

In the past of all the kb´s I´ve had, PSR series has allways fitted me best. Maby thats why I´m looking to upgrade in Tyros. It seems to be quite different comparing to my psr2k but not too different. I still want to try one first so I could be sure it is what I´m looking for.

Why not stick with your 2000 and use it to the full with the magic of sysex. Connect it to a computer and with a suitable XG editor like XGworks or XGEdit you can get full access to the synth and layer up to 18 sounds. I have some spectacular organs on my 740 by layering six different sounds.

Bryan,

that sounds extremely interesting. Where can I find more information about this?

YamBox, you can can further information about this by contacting Bryan. He's the expert. Still saving up for a Lap Top to be able to do this.
Hey Bryan, what would be the minimum CPU required to do this (Pentium II - 266 be ok)?

You can get XGworks and XGEdit from Yamaha UK. If you're in the US, several dealers sell XGworks for around $79 - look on the net. XGEdit is compact with a single screen but you can't access the whole synth in the 2k - you only get 3 DSPs. With XGworks you can get all 5 DSPs and all the instruments but to make it work properly with the 2k you need my updates. I sent them to Nigel but I don't know where he keeps them. You can download them from Jorgen's website at home7.inet.tele.dk/js/musik/740pages/ . Look under PSR software and find the XGworks updates. The big advantage with XGworks is that it's a powerful sequencer in its own right and has an auto arranger and a style generator in which you can also use your 2k styles.

Star, you can use any old computer as sending sysex is at midi speed - 31250 bps. Or you can use the "to host" connection via the serial port at 38400 bps. I used XGworks and XGedit on my old P233 with no problem.
