Kn7000 or Tyros? - 09/03/02 12:45 PM

Hi, friends.
Well, having Roland go out the arranger market (IMO), perhaps the question now is KN7000 or Tyros.

With same size (114 cm.), USB on both, but different weight (12 kg / 16 kg), and a few more priced the KN...

Any of you has played both for a live comparison?
What are the salient differences between KN and Tyros?
What about sounds?
What about sampling?

Who say's Roland have dropped out of the arranger market ?. This is very unlikely.

no evidence they have dropped out of the market, it just looks that way now because the latest roland discover 5 has no styles aboard, but relies on a system of modifying various parameters of midi files in real time. Thus you have midi files you have loaded onto smart media cards, max 128 MB at the moment?

Maybe it will be more interesting to try than it sounds, but what will the "pros" say to the "arranger musicians" who no longer even play left hand to generate their own chords from some one else's created backings, but just play along with midi files?

I've heard from a person that personally demo'd the KN 7000 and he said it was very lackluster, ie. mediocre. If you've listened to the KN 7000 demo MP3 files you'll understand more of why he said what he said. The Tyros on the other hand has some fantastic demo files in my opinion; although they tout there Mega Voice technology and what it can do for acoustic instruments I still feel the guitar sounds from the demo files still aren't able to effectively, eg., 'correctly and accurately' reproduce true life-like guitar sounds but there getting closer to that ideal. It also may be that the demo files that feature guitar voices aren't those of the Mega Voice sample. But the only way to truly know which one is right for you, is to try both and then decide.

Why not investigate the Gem Genesys. It's new and it rocks. Great sounds and styles and very easy to use. I got mine 3 days ago and can't keep off it. Also, the Ketron SD1 is another superb instrument, shop around.
