I think I stated a few weeks ago that Yamaha is still not sure if they will have an Upgrade or an Update. The upgrade would cost money and include new styles and data base lists and if it is an update, it would just change some features and functions. Yamaha is still not sure how to handle it.

On a related topic--George, I read where the Data Base (Song Finder) in the upcoming PSR2000 can be edited. Is that also a feature in the smaller units, such as the PSR550?
Incidentally my dealer friend and I talked to Yamaha in California today. They told us that the 2000s are in stock there already, but won't ship until the end of Sept. I assume they are awaiting final software.

Don,
You are correct about the 2000's arriving in California. Shippment will begin at the end of September. Anybody want to buy my last PSR740 floor sample for a great price? It's time to get it out with the new models coming in soon. Make me a reasonable offer and it's yours! On a more serious note, the data base on the 550 cannot be edited.

I got some new information today regarding the upgrade for the 9000 series. Yamaha now has realized that to do the song chain play function, it would require a hardware upgrade, not just a software upgrade. The decision has not been finalized as to whether this will be available or not. There could be a data base and style update only or both the software and hardware update. There are many questions such as who would pay for the hardware update. I suggested that it would be wonderful if Yamaha could do this but at who's expense? This was not a feature promised and could cost a lot of money to implement. With a new keyboard to replace the 9000 scheduled to come out sometime next year, it is a hard decision for Yamaha to have to make. We will have to see what they decide to do.

Amazing!!
My old PSR8000 and the "lowly" PSR 740 both have chain play.
I certainly hope they include it in the much-heralded PSR2000
