Yamaha psr9000 or psr2000.

Hello,

I just bought a second hand Yamaha psr9000 as second keyboard.
I have the possibility to trade the Yamaha psr9000 for a psr2000.
What do you suggest....keep the psr9000 or trade for the psr2000.
What's the best.

Thats a tuff one , but , IMO--if the 9K is in good shape and your happy with it , I say keep it. I have a Y2K and like it but the 9K is a little better as you can up-grade it. On the other hand "Tyros" will be comming soon and the 9K may be no more. If you "gig" alot does the weight of the 9K bother you? If you decide to keep it make sure that it has the latest up-grade (you can down-load the up-grade from Yamaha.com)
The Y2K can`t be "software up-grade-able" a chip has to be in stalled. I have not had the up-grade done on my 2K as I don`t think it`s needed (imo)
Whats your "main - board" ?

My main board is the technics kn6500....I just sold it and ordered a technics kn7000.

The psr9000 is in perfect condition...it 's like a new one.

I just like the feature ots link on the psr2000. It's a pitty the psr9000 doesn't have this feature.

As long as the weight isn't an issue.. The 9000 is the one. Not even close for this user.

I've owned both and played them both extensively. Keep the 9000 unless you are moving it every night. the advantages "outweigh" the few innovations that the 2K offers.

Amen. Don't sell the Caddilac to drive the Yugo.

Find 120 Styles you LOVE and place them in flash.

Then pick any one of the 120 Flash Styles ... pick sounds you like r1,r2,r3,L1... and PRESS RED registration button at extreme right of board and 1 of the 4 OTS buttons!

BAM! IT"S Done... whenever you press the flash style and the ots button ... it's set!

I have thousands of styles to pick from ... but there are only a handful that I LOVE! and assign to FLASH! for the OTS thing.

P.S. Since you just got your psr9000 , let me be a little more specific ... Press Flash style I ... and pick the first style... then ... at bottom of screen is STYLE MANAGER tab... press the key to open the menu... then "LOAD STYLE INTO FLASH ROM" button.... then ...if you have sytle LOADED on floppy ... pick the style you want to load there... and screen also says "with" or "without" ots settings... then press the keys to load the sytle.
Done! Then go back to top of my post and follow instructions to pick ots settings for the NEW FLASH style.

Keep the 9!

Some reasons to keep 9000:

I-Easy storage (Music database,OTS,Registration memory,flash styles etc)
2-Up grades via FD
3-Strong knobs and buttons.
4-Multi outputs
5-SCSI conection.
6-HD slot.
7-Conection to TV
8-Conection to PC keyboard
9-Powerfull speakers
10-R1,R2,R3 with 3 splits option.
11-Voices with portamento in R3

If you really don't like the psr9000, sell it instead of doing a equal trade for a psr2000!

Sell it for what you paid for it ... then get a psr2000 for 1/2 the price!

Your WIFE will be happy! And you will too ... if you really,really, really like the OTS feature on the psr2000.

Then when your kn7000 comes you will be a very happy man. The vocializer in the 9000 or 2000 is 1,000 times better then the one in the technics (according to what others have been saying) ...

P.S. I had the money and wanted to like the psr2000 ...went to the store 2 or 3 times to buy it... but it justed seemed cheap to me ... my GUT FEELING said NO and no amount of head thinking or reading or Forum talk could change my GUT SENSE ... then after a few months lots of others started to notice the cheap quality of the board. But while everyone was raving about it a year ago... I was shaking my head and thinking I must be missing something! Obviously there are alot of good things about the psr2000 too, and if YOU'RE GUT is telling you to get it ... GO FOR IT!!!

I've played the 2K almost every night since October. No problems at all. But I must agree that it doesn't feel as sturdy as the larger ones.

No problems with my PSR2000 either. Gigging with it exclusively since Nov 2001. Don, I wonder, if by any chance, our PSR2000's were produced in the same production batch ! - Scott

I think it would be mad to get rid of the 9k for a 2. If transport and weight do not figure at all in the equation, the sounds and speakers in the 9k are all. Find out how to use it first.

I am just searching for a harddisk and an external zipdrive scsi.....I can't find anymore zipdrives scsi...all usb.

forget buying scsi now - old technology with no future in this sort of application, unless you can get a real cheap bargain to throw away when you get rid of the 9k.
Get a cheap laptop drive for the 9k.

One that works great is:
Toshiba MK-6411MAT. It is 6.4 GB. I bought one a couple of years ago from PriceWatch.com. I know of at least 4 others who bought it and no problems at all with the 9K accepting it. I think I paid a little over $100. US.

It's hard to find the right HD that will work in your 9000. A member of our PSR Group sells HD's to people all over the world. He will sell you the right one, and it will be loaded with styles, etc. Contact:

Everything is USB now. You need a SCSI-2 CD-ROM EXTERNAL. Only place you'll find it is on EBAY. You can buy one for under $50.

i just bought a new SCII External zip drive with cables,ect... with 5 100meg disks ... for
$15 dollars on ebay

I'll let you know how it works when i get it. I figure 15 bucks is nothing for the ability to transfer to and from my psr9000.
