Solton X4 harddrive installation - 11/01/00 09:02 PM

Hi all,
It's been a long time since I last posted.
I guess I really don't have what to post.

Anyway,
I got myself a harddrive for my X4. I formatted it on the computer, and then when I install it in the module it tells me "Disk
not formatted. Harddisk format? Escape/execute."
All right, so I press "execute". It says "surface control" and percent done.
Then when it reaches 43 or 53 percent, it tells me "I/O Disk Error". Now what's that
supossed to mean? The drive works perfectly fine on the computer and I also replluged everything to make shure the connections are good.
Oh man,
I would really appreciate some help.
Please, if you have any knowledge/information on this thing(the harddrive).

Oh, It's a toshiba 2.5" laptop harddrive.

Thank you so much,
Jick

P.S. Do I have to put any jumpers on the board in the X4?

Jick,
I'm not sure of this, but not all hard drives work with different products. I know for a fact that many drives do not work in the Yamaha keyboards. When I need to buy a hard drive, I sometimes have to try several before a Generalmusic WK6 will work with specific drives. I've only ever used the Solton sold drives in my X4's in the store, and there is no special cables required or modifications. The solton drive is I beleive a 1.1 or 2.1 GB drive and I don't remember what brand they are using but I don't think it is Toshiba. Sorry I couldn't be more help. You could call Bell/Solton in New York for help. ask for John.

Jick--if you install any harddrive other than the Solton one or if you have any harddrive installed by someone other than the factory-approved technician, you void your warranty. The Solton harddrive plus installation costs USD$600 here in Phoenix. Good Luck.
