Hotel puzzle - 05/13/05 01:20 PM

Three men checked into a hotel. The clerk charged them 30 dollars which they paid. Upon checking the rates the clerk realized that he should have charged them 25 dollars. The clerk gave the bellhop 5 dollars and told him to return it to the three men.

The bellhop thought to himself, "how are those three men going to divide 5 dollars. I'll give them three (one for each) and I'll keep two. No one will be the wiser." He did exactly that.

Now the three men paid 27 for the room ( 30 minus the 3 = 27). The bellhop keep 2.

27 + 2 = 29 dollars. Where is the missing dollar?

The final calculation, adding the 27 and the 2 is where it gets confused. The 2 should be subtracted, since the total spent was 27, 25 for the room and 2 for the delivery of the refund.

If Don's music playing abilities are half of his puzzle solving abilities, we have a very good musician here.

PS Not forgetting to throw a little poison in the mix, ....unless he just googles the answers
