PA588 vs PA800 - 01/21/11 06:06 PM

as I can't afford an used PA2X, I thought about the PA800, however now my head is buzzing....the PA588 has a great keyboard, and it seems to me it only lacks the 64 mb sampler (I don't care as 64 mb nowadays is useless...) and less styles (320 instead of 400). However the keybed is great and I would only use the keyboard in my home studio.

Am I missing some relevant features from the PA800 ?

Hmm I thought you didn't like Korg Arrangers. Well to answer your question check this list at http://www.korgpa.com/pa_root/en/products/pa2x_comp.html?en
The PA588 has the same features as the PA500.

I own the PA500 so if you have questions let me know.

If your into weighted keys then, it's a good way to go. It is like a digital piano, with extras. smile

It's not that I don't like Korg arrangers, but their PA3X doesn't show the same level of 'goodies' as their Kronos.

Also, I thought that the Korg was missing the 'chord track' (I have read the manuals) ,which Yamaha has, but another user explained to me that in fact, the Korg has the same function as Yamaha's 'chord track', it's just called differently. So my interest in the Korg has risen because if it can do the same 'chord track' function, then it also has a more in-depth sequencer than my Tyros 2, which is good because I want such a sequencer.

I even bought an used QY-700 in the hope that by hooking it up to the Tyros 2, I would have all the editable features as the Korg's sequencer, but the QY700 setup has proven to be a very complicated setup as I did not manage to integrate it fully with the Tyros 2.

So I might as wel get a Korg. I can't affort the PA2X, it will be either the PA800 or the PA500, the latter is cheaper so it holds my interest as I don't need a 64 mb sampler (too small memory anyways) , and the TC Helicon. The lack of colour screen is no big deal either.

The only thing I might be missing are the RX sounds of the PA800, but I don't know if they really are much better than the PA500.

How does the PA500 keybed fares? Do you know if it is better than the keybed of a PSR 910 or similar? (if you know).

Given that the PA500 has a very good price even new, I would prefer it to a used PA800, unless the latter has far better voices.

Anyways, feel free to tell me what you know, and how the PA500's keybed feels.
Cheers

Hi,

The PA500 have RX sounds but no DNC sounds. And yes it has a step sequencer. The keys feels very good to me but I don't know about the feel of the PSR S910. I did play Yamaha keyboards in the past and always liked the keybed of them. I play on the PA500 for a year now and still very pleased with it. The edit possibilities are endless.

oh, shoot....the PA500 doesn't have score, that's actually very important to me...I'll go for the PA800. Thanks

Why is the score display important to you? How do you intend to use it? FYI, while the Pa500/588 does not have a score display, it can display chord symbols along with lyrics.
