pa1x vs pa2x

pa1x vs pa2x - 11/20/07 04:18 PM

What are the real world differences of these two?
The reason I ask is I've got a great price on a 2nd hand PA1X so I'm wondering if I should get that, or toss in the extra bucks and get on the waitlist for the PA2X in december?

Doc..120 voice polyphony and included MP3 player are reason enough to consider the new model..It appears there are many more improvements..You can download the manual..

What about sounds, I can see the new one has a few more sounds, but the old one has more styles. I'm going to use this for live gigs, all I need is a mic input for my wh20, a music database for my sets, and 76 keys to play on. And offcourse good sounds, at least drums and bass. It would also be perfect if I could play like a pianist and have the autocomp follow me. Except for that I don't need any more bells or whistles. Will the PA1X suffice?

Hi Doc,

The Pa2x sound engine has been redesigned and includes the same synthesis model as the Korg Flagship synth, the OASYS. I also believe this is the same sound engine used in the PA800.

The sounds should be WORLDS apart from the Pa1x. The huge caveat here is that you should audition them yourself before forking over thousands of dollars.

Al

Hi Doc,
if it was me I'd be waiting till December & try & do a hands on comparison of the 2.

Nothing worse than settling for one, then wishing you'd waited.

I would imagine the PA1x's will only keep getting less expensive, as korg owners upgrade to the PA2x.

I recently bought the PA800( 61 note forerunner to the PA2X ) & luv it. Personally I don't have regrets for not waiting for a PA2x, only because I wanted speakers & don't need another 76 note keyboard.

They had a fairly major upgrade to the PA800 operating system, where they included
"Guitar Mode". They revised a number of styles & the styles that include the guitar mode tracks sound brilliant.

Didn't own a PA1x so can't really compare sounds & styles, but maybe if you can get your hands on a PA800 & compare it PA1X may give you rough idea if the PA2x is worth waiting for. I think from what I read on the website the PA800 & PA2x
share the same sounds & styles.

best wishes
Rikki

When I compare the list of patches and waveforms it seems that PA1X and PA2X shares a lot of sounds, most of the RX sounds from PA2X are present in the PA1X at least when I compare patch names, however they could be totally different offcourse. The audio demos on korgpa.com that are the same for PA1X and PA2X sound identical, at least I can't distinguish them from eachother.

But compared to the PA800? (I can get one for the same price as the PA1X) how does that compare?

Doc, you mention you would like to play in piano mode and let the arranger follow you..I would think that 76 keys would work better for you..The PA800 has 61..Also play the keys and see if they are pleasing to you..the key feel is a deal breaker for me..

If the PA1X does the job for you, and you are happy..Go for it, if you prefer not to wait...

Hi Doc,
I wasn't suggesting you get a PA800, if you need 76 keys, that's what you should stick with.
I was only suggesting that you compare it with a PA1X, to see if you think it's worth waiting round for the PA2x.
From what I've read, sounds & styles should be similar on the PA2x & PA800.

Hi All,

I'm a new member, and a newbee player, recently retired so now have time to learn to use the new toy, a Korg pa500, to add to an elderly Eminent 2000 home theater organ, and a Hammond ex1000 organ [midi in-out]. I tried to make a selection of a new keyboard based on input from others, and from demos, but finally I bit the bullet and rented for a month one kind, The Yamaha PSR s900.
I loved it's easy interface, amazing sounds and the great variety of styles. However I was bowled over by the Korg 'live' like sounds, and selected it. If you can rent both for a week or more, I think you will quickly identify what is better for you. My Renter would deduct some of the rent cost if I buy from them, so its not all loss.

Hi David,
if you're planning on midiing stuff to a keyboard, the PA500 is possibly the better choice.

I have the PA800, & I've midied a couple of my keyboards/modules to it , (just to try). I would imagine the PA800 & PA500 would be similar in that respect.

I also tried something similar with my PSR1500, couldn't get the same result.
The midi functions aren't as good.

Hi Rikki
Thanks for the encouragement. I have settled on the pa500 and I'm working through its functions. I'll post my results when I midi the Korg to the Hammond,

Cheers,
