Yamaha M0# Vs. ES Motif

Basically, I am looking to got a very compacy keyboard that has all of the features that I could possibly want.
The ES Motifs I know already meet all of my requirements, but they persist in being ludicrously expensive.
I noticed that the M0#'s came out, and saw the extremely reduced price, and I want to know why it is so much cheaper.
Can anyone PLEASE shed light on this?

It is simply because the ES series is the latest Motif series so the price on older stock always drops when it is superseded. Of course the ES models have newer features such as expanded waveform memory and more sample RAM but they share the same basic sound engine.

I own a Motif 6 that I bought when its original owner decided to move up to an ES Motif. I decided the original Motif was the most cost effective solution for me. I guess you need to decide whether the extra features justify what they will cost you.

These are about $1000 cheaper than the normal Motif ES series.

As compared to the ES's, the MO's have a different keybed, no sampling, and are capable of twice the number of performances (256).

I haven't reviewed the new MO#s specs but I believe;
half the polyphony
no sampling ability
no expansion slots

But I'm not 100% I don;t think there's a 76 key version either.

My apology for the confusion. I hadn't even realized that Yamaha had brought out the MO series and thought you were referring to the classic Motif. I guess if RW is right about the polyphony, sampling and expansion slots then that would definately account for the big price difference.

True, the ES is 128 poly, the MO is 64. If one doesn't care about sampling (or sequencing), but wants the full wave ROM of the ES and some expansion slots, the Motif Rack ES in conjunction with a separate controller might be worth considering.
