choosing between yamaha P80 or P200 - 06/07/00 12:20 PM

Hi,

Who can give me advise in choosing between these great digital piano's.
The only thing that matters to me is the feel and the sound. The P200 is much more expensive, and has more midi capabilities.
But Does it sound much much better????
Or only a little bit better.
It doesn't matter that it weights so much.

I checked them both out and played the P80 true the speakers of a P200, so it was a great test. I found that the P200 sounded a little to bright, and the P80 sounded better??

The P200 has been around for a while now and the P80 is brand new.

I'm afraid i'll be dissapointed if i choose for the P80 instead of the P200 because everybody love's the P200, so there must be something that's very special about it.

Who can help me pleaaase!!!!

The piano in the p80 is better than the s80. The s80 has more synth stuff and controllers, but if you want PIANO - get the p80.THe 200 is old news already.

Mark,

I have thought that P200 was the best portable keyboard for the piano quality. I had problems with it:

1) too heavy
2) too expensive.

Then I checked out P80:

1) lighter
2) cheaper
3) believe it or not: it sounds better.

I would say get P80 without hesitation *smile*

Here's another vote for the P-80 ! Darn, I LOVE mine. If your a PIANO player youve gotta love it. The P200 just doesnt sound quite as good for piano. I hook my P-80 up to my computer and synths and do all the usual MIDI things as well. The only P80 drawbacks for this are no pitch bend or mod wheels and no after touch. Big deal - you can do most of this stuff with software now anyways if it becomes that important. I'm sick of EFFECTS anyways - thats what's driving this whole music industry now and its mostly BS ! Give me a little reverb, a little pan and a little separate track volume control and you can have all the rest of the effects and plug-ins. But I digress - get the P-80.

Here's a little bit more info from a Yamaha Dealer in California.
When I went to the Yamaha Offices here in California for the debut of the P80 I got a lot of info from the product Manager of that division.
The graded hamer action of both the 200 and 80 are exactly the same.
The piano sounds in the P80 are actually right out of the Clavinova series, where the P200 were sampled just for the 200. However, most of my customers and myself included, prefer the warmer sound of the P80 piano. Sometimes, even though one piano sample might be made with larger Ram samples, it doesn't always mean it will sound better. There are so many variables to take into consideration. I can tell you that I have not sold one P200 since the P80 arrived in October, and I have sold dozens of P80's.
So my opinion is, if you don't need the mod wheel and pitch bender and you really care about the piano feel and sound, go for the P80!
