Is TG77 flexible?

Is TG77 flexible? - 08/24/01 05:01 PM

I'm very into FM-synthesis and was thinking of buying a TG77 since it has 8 operators, right?

Are all the parameters editable like on an old DX7? Can I change algorithms, ADSR, feedback, vibrato etc?

I really only need a yes or no, but of course more advise is welcome.

The TG77 has 6 operators, but their waveform is not only sine. 16 different sine modifications (e.g. absolute sine)are available. As far as I know, the algorithms are the same as in the DX-series.
Besides the FM-synthesis the TG77 also has 16 voices that can playback rom-samples as paino, strigns and so on. But from today´s point of view they sound rather cheap.

You can change every parameter, and believe me, there are much more than in an old DX7.

The Advanced FM on the SY/TG77 is capable of some great sounds. The onboard waveforms are there more to layer with FM sounds and are very useful for that purpose. And having the effects processor onboard also makes it possible to program complex sounds not possible on the DX-7. If you are looking for an FM synth to program, the TG-77 is a great choice.
