PSR 8000 and karaoke: help, please!!
- 06/27/99 07:54 PM
Hi everybody,
how do I use *.kar files with PSR8000?
If I rename them to *.mid, it doesn't display lyrics (plays only midifile).
Is there a converter? How should cope with it?
Thanks,
Leonardo

Mmmm... actually I don't know.
I just downloaded them from the net.
If,after having renamed them *.mid, I import them in Cubase,there are some lines that say:
Soft Karaoke
@KMIDI KARAOKE FILE
@V0100
@I Lyrics entered by ...
@I email: ...
@LENGL
@T Title name
@T Artist name
Is this useful? I'm afraid I can't give more information.
Regards,
Leonardo

Looks like a proprietary file format from Soft Karaoke, an older program (I think made by Passport Designs...).
Unless the native program can convert the file itself to a standard MIDI file with lyrics, you're hooped.

the .kar files from the internet are in type 1 karaoke format. I am not certain about the psr8000, but the psr630/730 only displays lyrics for type 0 karaoke. So it's not enough to change the extension to .mid, you must convert the type 1 file to type 0. There are several programs that can do this, that can be found on the internet. The simplest one I found is called "one2nul", if you run a search for this filename on altavista, it should give you a site to get it from. I hope this will help,
