My Kn7000 Is Not Working

My Kn7000 Is Not Working - 02/23/19 11:41 AM

Sad news, my Kn7000 has stopped working. Everything is working but the keys are not sending any info to the rest of the keyboard. Chord changes and sound.

Its as if the line between keys and the rest of the keyboard was cut. This does not sound like it’s a major problem, I hope.

Anyone experience this problem?

Check your keyboard's Local On/Off setting as that will cause the issue you have. Make sure it is set to ON

I just took a look at the KN7000 manual it says "On the MIDI MENU display select PART SETTING". There is a LOCAL On\Off setting for RIGHT1 RIGHT2 and LEFT and they should all be ON for normal use. If they are ON then you may have a hardware issue. Though I would first try turning them OFF then back ON again.

I do not believe that a setting is causing he problem.
(In my limited Knowledge)

1-The keys will not make the style do chord changes.

2-I did get some sound a few times when I pressed the keys, but it faded after a few seconds. An on and off setting would not react that way.

3-I did get sound for a very short period when I move the cover. That only happened once for a very short time.
Now to find a Technion that will handle the problem.

Nigel, Gunnar, thank you for helping, John C.

Have you tried setting the keyboard back to factory settings?

Thanks to all for your help.
Have tried everything that was recommended, to no avail. When I load a sequence it plays without error. BUT when I try to use the outside controls, the controls when the lid is closed I get this reading;
ERROR #83

The error messages I have in the manual and service manual only go up to #73or #71. Any thoughts on Error #83?

Hi Bruno,

Unfortunately, I don't get much time lately for my music hobby! Any time I have available is being spent on site maintenance and redeveloping my Technics sites for a re-launch.

However, I've been reading your thread. This sounds to me as though the ribbon cable connecting the cover is failing. I think you should stop using it and find an engineer before it gets worse as you open and close the lid. Failure of these cables due to age and repetitive opening and closing of the lid has been on JD5live's mind I know because we have discussed it often.

I think the error 83 is probably a red herring and is to do with a file that the keyboard can't read correctly from your SD card. I have some info about error 83 but haven't been able to find it yet with a quick search.

I hope it is something simple to fix!

Best wishes,
Mike

It is always worth opening the keyboard up and making sure all cables ( and maybe even chips ) are plugged in correctly as they can change after many years of movement and heat expansion.

I had to post these Emails, they are about how men can relate under trying conditions. It’s a positive story. Here’s cheers to RC, ya gotta love this guy. John C.

John when I read your post I felt like throwing up. If you find the problem please let me know. If you have to have it repaired please let me know the cost if it is under 900. I will pay for it. If it cannot be fixed please let me know and I will send you 900.00. I feel so bad and I don’t want to have these feelings. I do hope it is something simple because I saw your eyes light up when I brought the keyboard in. It could be something that was loaded in with a SD card. RC (Roger Bollitti)

Ouch! You’re not gonna away with this, no way. I gave you a $100 tip for delivering the keyboard, that made me the best man. Then you gave me all that stuff in the boxes, that put you ahead of me. Now it’s my turn. (Smile)
Roger, the keyboard was working Fine until two days ago, now it’s my responsibility. But I do appreciate your concern. Take care my friend, John C

John take a picture of the keyboard when it’s turned on and send it to me. I want to look at the positioning of everything to see if I can see anything. We will work on this together because your warranty is not up, RC
