Midi OUT socket buzzing - will USB work?

Midi OUT socket buzzing - will USB work? - 01/27/16 07:42 AM

Just started getting a loud Buzz or Hum when inserting Midi jack into my KN7000 Midi OUT (this is to connect my Module and control it from the KN7000.

Midi IN and THRU don't seem to be affected.

It means I can no longer use my module with the KN7000 but I know you can get a USB cable that splits to 2 5 pIN DIN MDI Sockets - Midi IN and Midi out.

This is meant for hooking up to a computer but does anyone know whether it is possible to hook up to my module in this way.

Anybody tried hooking up to anything except a computer with this method?
Thanks in advance.

Could be the midi jack and lead...might be worth buying a replacement one and trying that.

Hi Tony,
What equipment produces the hum you hear? (Module or KN7000)
Did you change something in the setup?

I own no KN but have strong doubts is has USB ports onboard, so I think it's not possible to use USB.
You write 'MIDI Jack'. As fas as I know 'jack' is mostly a 6.3mm TRS connector.

You could try to supply the mains power from non-grounded outlets. (To prevent ground-loops)

Bill, I was wrong... sorry for that. The KN7k has a USB port for the use of MIDI signals.

My thoughts:

1-If you are getting a buzz, get new wires.
2-Try something else that can connect to the Kn7000 Midi.(If you do not have something try to borrow)
3- Can you drive your module with something that you might have?

You have to isolate where the buzz is coming from. Even if you have to use an inexpensive Yamaha/Casio keyboard with Midi ports.

Let us know how you are doing.

Bill, what is the USB port used for. I thought it was used to connect the Kn7000 to a computer. I never use it.

Hi kla4 & bruno123,
By "midi jack", I am referring to standard midi plugs (known as 5 pin din, I believe).
It's the kn7000 which makes the loud buzz.
Can drive my modules through my Tyros4 ok.
Have tried new cables but used the originals with Tyros and they are ok.
I don't understand what non-grounded outlets means - will have to look it up.
But the Kn7000 is plugged into a 6 way socket along with the tyros and the module and always worked ok before with this same setup.
The USB on the Kn7000 is really to connect to a computer but I wondered if anyone had used it to try and drive a module - don't want to do anything which may make matters worse.
Thanks for the interest guys - will post back if I learn anything new.

Non grounded means not having the ground on your power plug. You can get an adapter that removes the ground. But it is odd you only have the issue on your Technics keyboard.
