KN5000 SOUND NAMING ERROR MESSAGES - 01/12/15 02:01 AM

Greetings from Western Australia.I am just wondering if you have come across the above messages before?

PROBLEM DETAILS:
I have a KN5000 with Internal Hard Drive fitted and when switched on,the following error messages are displayed on the LCD Screen:
PART:
LEFT: SOUND NAMING ERROR
RIGHT 1 SOUND NAMING ERROR
RIGHT 2 SOUND NAMING ERROR

1. I tried resetting the instrument
2. I installed “Initialisation Disc”

This did not work error messages still displaying on startup. No sound emanates from the unit.
Everything else appears to be in order

I then removed the panels underneath the instrument in search for a “Lithium” type battery (Memory Backup)
On my previous Technics Keyboards there has always been a battery installed. However I could not find one in the KN5000.
The unit was in storage for quite some time and I am unsure of the status of the “Back-up battery”

I rather feel that the Main CPU Board may have been affected by the long term storage (moisture etc) somehow.

Any ideas? I would really appreciate your help in “pointing me in the right direction”.
I am not very Tech savvy when it comes to Electronic Keyboards. However I did install the HDAD5000 myself with excellent results. I also have a KN1000 and a KN7000.

Looks like you might need to get hold of a copy of the KN5000 operating system and reload it.

Hi Roger,
Thank-you for the prompt reply.
I do recall doing an OS upgrade but several years ago and the KN5000 has spent a lot of its life in storage since then. However, as recently as 3 months ago I powered up and played the KN and it worked perfectly.
I tend to agree with you that the OS needs upgrading. You have obviously encountered this "Sound Naming" problem before. I have misplaced the two discs which make up the upgrade.Do you know where I can purchase the latest upgrade?
When the KN5000 first failed to operate I contacted a Mike BARDEN (Technics tech)in the UK. He had not encountered the problem before with the KN5000 but suggested that the problem could be with the Main Board CPU.He can repair the unit if this is the problem. If he can't fix it Panasonic will swap the unit 1 for one.A potentially expensive exercise.New Main Board costs GBP350. To initiate ANY repairs I would have to de-install the Board and send it to UK.Before I do this I must explore the option of OS failure being the problem cause.

I would be most grateful if you can advise where I can purchase the current OS Upgrade software (Neil Blake maybe?)

Thank-you once again

Regards

Chris

Hi
Don't know if it's for any help, but I have the Initial Data Disk and the v 10A update as zipped files.
If you pass your email in a PM, I will pass it over to you.

Hi Chris - I'm going to suggest that you join up to this new TECHNICS keyboards specialist web site and have a word with the guy that produces it - www.technicskn7000.com
He deals with all the Technics models and will be able to either supply you or point you in the right direction.

Hi Gunnar,

Greetings from Aussie. Many thanks for your informative email.
I already have the original "Initial Data" Disc. I assume that there have been no upgrades on this.My email address is cbuckie@bigpond.net.au As I recall there are certain procedures to go through when installing OS Upgrades For example: holding certain buttons down whilst powering up.I should be fine with this. Again a big thank-you Gunnar and I look forward to receiving zip files shortly
Best Regards
Chris

Always good to have another Aussie on the forum. I am from Melbourne originally and it amazes me how many Aussies we get here.

Files mentioned above sent, and hopefully it will be for any help. The big question are if the OS updatefile will be enough since that's "only" a update, not the full OS?

I don't know if Alec (technicsplayer) still read this forum. If there is any "full OS" replacement I think he maybe will know where to get and how to do as well. smile

You could attach those zip files to this thread so anyone can get them here.
