Technics K series - 10/24/14 08:13 AM

Hi. I would love to get your feedback. For years I have been wanting to get an SX K350 keyboard, mostly because that's the keyboard Leonard Cohen used on the "I'm Your Man" album. I love that sound. I recently noticed that my local music store has a K300 for sale for a very good price. I am thinking about getting it.

My question is, how big of a difference is there between the K300 and the K350? Is it mostly just cosmetic? Or is there quite a noticeable difference in sound? Are they quite different or pretty much the same? In your opinion is one better than the other? Thanks.

Whilst you're trying to decide on the K300 and K350, with a bit of effort on setting up software you could get a virtual K250, the sounds are very similar and the cost is only £4. It can be played via midi or on your computer keyboard. Having owned a K250 I can tell you that this virtual instrument is exactly like the real thing. I've spoken to the creator, nice guy.

The K300 and K350 have a few more sounds and rhythms, yes they are better than the K250 of course and the K300 or K350 should be fairly low cost these days. If you like their sounds they are well worth it.

Thanks a lot for the info guys.

I did already see that YouTube video, and it does give me a good idea what the K300 sounds like. But I guess I'm looking for someone who has used both the K300 and the K350. I am curious if they are very similar or quite different.

They are fairly similar. Unfortunately I don't have the manuals for any of them yet but I have a sales brochure with brief specifications.

The K350, K400 and K450 share the same sound chips but have different panel controls.

I think you would be disappointed with the K300 in comparison with the K350 due to lack of solo sounds and some other fairly important features.

I've updated the K350 page with all of the info I have including the sales brochure. I'll add more info in due course and an instruction manual as soon as I have one:

You'll also find this page useful:

The manual is also available at this site at a cost (no connection to me, I think these manuals should be free but I occasionally have to buy one):

I noticed there's a pretty good deal on a K450 on eBay at the moment if you're still looking for a K series with that particular sound chip.
