In case anyone else in the future is looking for the manual it can be downloaded from here http://www.synthzone.com/midi/technics/kn7000/ along with some other KN7000 files including some styles.

Bill,

Does your site have the Service/Repair Manual to download? If not, can it be downloaded FREE on another site?

I always mirror downloads available on the Internet here at Synth Zone. Because in the past websites have suddenly vanished without notice so I don't want those resources to be lost forever. If there is ever any problem with copyright of those resources then the owner of the copyright can contact me and have me remove them from my archive. Otherwise I will continue to keep them in my archive. But on my webpages I always link to the site that the resources orginate from. My archive is simply a backup.

As I said Nigel - Only Joking!!
You are more than welcome to archive anything from my website....
Until I followed your link, I didn't realise that you had added that material.

Mark, the KN7000 service manual is not available on my website - It is available from several sources on the Internet - cost around US$25

I know you were Bill. Your resources are important and I felt that archiving them here as a backup was a good thing to do.

It sucks that the service manual costs anything because I am sure the seller doesn't have the rights to it. It would be good to get a copy of that if anyone does get one so it can become freely available.

Hi Nigel, I do have a PDF copy of the KN7000 Service Manual which I paid for, but I am a bit reluctant to make it generally available because of possible Copyright issues.......

Sure thing. Just curious, was it bought from Technics/Panasonic?

It was so long ago that I can't remember where I bought it! However, I do know that it was not bought from Panasonic......
It was probably one of the On-Line websites which specialise in providing User/Service manuals.

Re: User manual for KN7000 - 06/03/12 06:26 PM

I very much doubt those websites actually own the rights to the manuals to prevent them being distributed. They are just making money out of selling hard to find manuals. Like the user manual I would think the rights still actually belong to Panasonic.

I would think that the only copyright documented in the manual itself would be for Technics/Panasonic and not the website that sold it. I would be prepared to make the service manual available here on Synth Zone so all KN7000 owners could get it, and deal with any copyright issues myself. Though I very much doubt there are any.

OK Nigel, I'll arrange to get a copy to you. I think at over 7MB I might have a problem emailing it as an attachment. I'm a bit busy at present - got 2 Jubilee Street Parties today and tomorrow - I'll put it on '4shared' later and let you know when it's available.
I can't see any mention of 'Copyright' in the document, but of course, that's not to say that it isn't implied......

Re: User manual for KN7000 - 06/04/12 04:47 PM

Hello Nigel and Bill,

I have the original User Manual and also Alec Pagida's "How Do I Do That". Now! I understand that perhaps Alec's book is still under Copyright (if it ever was) but in view of the fact that Technics ceased producing the KN Keyboards, all styles were offered by them to anyone who wished to download them for FREE, I doubt very much the original Copyright on the Manual still holds. What would be the point? Personally, I'd be only too happy to help someone in any way I can to learn how to use and enjoy the KN Keyboards particularly the KN7000. For me, there is still nothing to beat it.

Meanwhile, I realise that Bill's is 'winding you up' but I agree that it does make sense to keep backups of everything you do. I've learned that lesson the hard way. I had a PC crash a few years back and lost everything.....it makes you very aware of the need for backups believe me.

By the way, I had a telephone call from John Barr's wife to say that John's KN7000 has been sold to a young musician in Scotland, but she still has several items including the Music Pad, if anyone is interested. I'm sure John would be very pleased to know his treasured KN7 is being put to good use.

Nigel, The document in question has been uploaded - the address is in the email which I sent to you.....

Audrey, both Alec's books are still covered by Copyright. I would expect that Panasonic (or Mitsushita) Copyright still exists on the KN7000 User Manual, although I doubt anyone would be challenged for obtaining an 'unauthorised' version......
There is a very good document here : http://www.caret.cam.ac.uk/copyright/Page171.html which explains the legal position re. Copyright issues in plain language. Just because someone dies or a company goes out of business, does not invalidate the Copyright. Copyright can last for up to 70 years........

With regard to all the styles from the past Technics keyboards, which were on the original Technics website, as far as I am aware, Panasonic waived the Copyright on these styles and made them freely available to everyone.
When the website closed down, I contacted Panasonic with a view to making them available on my website, and at the time, I also asked about Copyright issues. I was informed that I was welcome to add them to my website and that there were no Copyright restrictions on these styles.

Hello,

I do not think there could be problems with the copyright of Passing manuals. Panasonic has released the download of instruction manuals.

Look here:

Harry, that is not what is stated on the website : http://www.panasonic.de/html/de_DE/44350/index.html#anker_44350

Re: User manual for KN7000 - 06/07/12 09:40 AM

My daughter works for a 'Patents and Copyright' Company and believe me! it's literally "a law unto itself" with many questions to be answered in my opinion. e.g. obviously, if you are selling a KN keyboard, all the 'bumph' goes with it including the Manual, so what is the difference between actually passing it on, as opposed to posting it on?

Also, I seem to remember that the life of the Copyright was recently changed by law from 50 years to 30 years but again, due to the complicated rules and regulations, this may be applicable only to certain areas. Hmm! interesting....

Yep Audrey, you are absolutely right. Copyright issues are a very grey area which make website owners very paranoid about the legality of offering certain files for download. Very scary stuff for sure.
