I know I am missing something simple but for the life of me I cannot find the method of uploading a picture to my post or to my profile.

John, to upload a pic to your profile is simple. Just click on "My Stuff" menu at the top of the page and pick "Edit Profile" then at the bottom of the page you will see "Upload Avatar". Just make sure the avatar is SMALLER that 80x80 ie 79x79 or less or it wont work.
