Try Wharfdale amplification - about £250 and superb sound...

I own a Bose Compact L1 and there are many good reasons that would support owning one. The first is the weight, you can carry the speakers and woofer/Amplifier with very little effort, one n each hand. I would guess the speakers are about 16 pounds and the woofer/amplifier about 24 pounds. I do not do playing jobs away from my home any longer but if I did it would take two trips from my car to the place I was playing – and the set up would take a fraction of the time it did with my JBL 10s, making life much sweeter.

The second reason is the clarity. The third is that it is hard to distort at high volumes. And this one is fantastic, the volume is almost the same when standing in the back of a room or four feet away. The people in front of you no longer need abused. (Volume)

One negative, is that some feel the Mids are weak.

IMHO, John C.

I own the Compact and it's big brother, and find both to be the truest and clearest amplification system I have ever owned. I don't buy the weak mid's claims. Some people have other heavy systems and would never admit that theirs is not the best.

Bernie, not totally true..I can give you many names of Bose L1 owners (that love the Bose)..but will admit the mids problem....Every single person that has heard the Bose Compact with and without the "RAC" feature of the Edirol mixer....has heard the dramatic difference in the Bose sound...The RAC brings out the mids that are lost from the factory...once you hear the difference....you will not want to use the Bose without the RAC...if you have the choice..

As for each of us ..loving what we use..true..I still will not trade my ancient Roland Cubes for anything on the current market...Especially a Bose (I had to add a zing)...

I agree 100% with Fran...I just sold my Bose compact and I've also sold my bigger L1 last year also for the same reasons very poor in the mid-range department.....the Edirol M-10DX mixer RAC can really bring out the best in sound systems,
"Night and Day" is the correct term when you A/B the settings...it's amazing to hear.
As a singer the vocals are very important to me as is mid range frequencies & believe me I can definitly hear the loss of them with the Bose systems without some help. Anyway if your happy with your Bose systems that's all that matters, BUT for me as a professional entertainer on stage nightly the Bose should stay as designed as a "Personal Amplification System" for one instrument monitor....NOT a full featured frequency PA trying to produce the full frequencies of a 6 or 7 piece band & Vocals. That should be left up to the Big Guns that's are especially made for that purpose. I tried the systems a few times...but after a few months left me wanting more to be honest hence my moving on to bigger and better things.Btw I still havn't found out what the wattage output of the Bose compact is, does anyone know for sure?

Hey, that's fine, to each his own. I EQ the sound to fit the room, including mid range and bass. While, admittedly, not as scientific as the RAC, I certainly have no problem getting a balance people rave about.

I use the Compact playing out and the L1 Classic is kept set up in my studio. I am willing to let it go for a reasonable price if interested.
