Tangos

Hi Folks,

I have a gig coming up in January and have been asked to play mainly tunes for Ballroom Dancing.
I've got a couple of Tangos which I would like to do and although I know the basic tunes, I don't know the titles of them. If I can find the titles, then I can obtain recordings of them to listen to and learn. They are well known tunes, but since I don't read the dots, the best way I can describe them, is by giving a few of the starting notes :

1. C4,C4,C4, - C4,E4,D4,D4,C4........
2. E4,D5,B4,Ab4,E4,Eb4,E4,F4,E4,Eb4,E......

Any Ideas ??

I only read music, and I do not understand your alphabet style (please explain).
May i suggest a few titles ?
Jealousy
Kiss of Fire
La Cumparsita
Hernando's Hideaway....for a start
All can be found in a Buskers Book "All Latin"

P.S. What does LOL mean in this internet jargon, I have worked out a few others all by myself,but to us down here it generally means "little old lady" which does not gel in any context. School's out.

I'll take the easy one first ... "LOL" = Laugh Out Loud ...

As for the 'numbering system, I believe C4 refers to the 4th "C" position on the piano, so if playing you would hit "C" 3 times (but not knowing what the time value is - 1/4 note, 1/2 note. whole note, etc.), then hit "C" again, then the "E" above that then the "D", etc. etc.
I think I might know how the melody would sound, but without my kb near I can't be certain ...
But you gave a good list to start with ...

BILL..... The first tango I thought of is Temptation... Then there is Jalousie, La Paloma (The Dove). I like to play Spanish Eyes to the Organ Bossa and a Tango works well with it also.

Maybe if you have some of the words to work with, we would be better equipped to find just the ones you are looking for Bill.

Like Ray & Tony, trying to work with just the chords as clues.... just does not work at all for me. Now if you could just hum a few bars for us Bill....

Ray, Tony's right - my way of describing the tune is just the notes you would play on the keyboard, but without any length. However, just playing these notes should give you an idea of the beginning of the tune. Thanks for you suggested Tangos

Thanks to all you Guys and Gals for suggesting lots of Tangos - much appreciated I now have more than enough to go at but I still don't know the name of that first one Anyone ???

GOT IT !!

Good Ole Johnny Barr came up with the answer. It's called 'Guitar Tango' and was played by The Shadows! I should have known that.......

Could your first tune be either of the following

1) Pablo The Dreamer (Adios Muchachos)
2) La Cucaracha

Just a guess!

Guitar Tango was played by that great group "the Shadows" and was a 60's hit instrumental .

I've got the sheet music some where at home I used to play it on my accordion !!

I think it's time i played it again !!
especially as I have good backing style accomps arranger linked up to my midi accordions !!

The Shadows are still playing as good as ever and appeared with "Sir Cliff Richard " on the Royal variety command performance at the London palladium last week and the show was broadcast on UK TV last night !!
