How good is the 7000?

How good is the 7000? - 11/25/02 10:12 AM

Pondering over which arranger to purchase, I have concerns that the 7000 might be too steep a learning curve for me. Questions:
1. Is the sd card and all it offers easily understood?
2. Can I get by WITHOUT having to use a computer (which I really dont' want to do)

Given the fact that I have past knowledge of sequencing with keyboards (but no software knowledge) and familiar with operating systems in the PSR 2000 series, etc. and some brains, will I catch on fairly easy coming from the Yamaha format? I realize this is a broad question, but comments are appreciated because I really do like this board.
Thanks,
Zuki

As both a Yamaha PSR2000 owner and former Technics KN5000 owner who has had the opportunity to play the KN7000 as well, I can confidently say you should have NO PROBLEM catching on to the KN7000 OS system. I believe both the Technics & Yamaha OS to be the most user friendly of all arrangers, so if you have managed to catch on to the Yamaha's floppy disk & user memory system, the SD Card system will be just as easy to master.

Zuki, the big strength (imho) about the KN keyboards is its user friendly & powerful on board sequencing & editing capabilities. I especially like the way you can step record/edit arranger parts into the dedicated control track. Yamaha unfortunately doesn't include this feature.

Though it certainly will make things more convenient if you utilize a computer, you can certainly get by quite nicely doing everything you want directly on the KN7000 itself, WITHOUT a computer.

Zuki,

I have arranged dozens of songs with complicated big band sounds, etc., and have never yet had to use my computer to do the sequencing.

The Tecnhics sequencing system, I feel, is the easiest and yet the most powerful and time saving system going.

And of course, if you do have any questions you can't figure out, the forum here can answer any of them.

Zuki,
The fact that the KN7K allows fantastic new capability through the USB port has not changed any of the internal capabilities that have been in the keyboards. The SD card can certainly be used to great advantage without external connection as well, so don't let the additional capabilities scare you away.
The basic operating characteristics of the keyboard have been maintained, which make it both easy to use and flexible.
I don't have one, but found it very easy to navigate the first time I tried at a dealer.

It's basic features including the SD Card system are vey easy to use.

Do not let all that high tech stuff intimidate you.

You can have a lot of fun on this keyboard with out it.

Don't worry about learning curve, you can learn any board... with time. However, the two KB you're considering are totally different. Spend as much time as you can with each board. You'll see a vast difference in sounds, navigation, styles, and more

Hi Zuki,
I have had quite a few different brand keyboards over the years, Roland, Korg, Yamaha & Technics. I found that the Technic's KN series the most user friendly keyboards I've had. I've had the KN7000 for approx 2 months and I really love it.

It pretty much has everything . A great sequencer. Sound editing. Expansion slots for extra sound boards ( I've got all 4 , and they're great). The style creating features are excellent, you can even create user styles from midifiles. The list goes on and on.

best wishes
rikki
