A Little Trader

OK so I finally bought a new keyboard. It's the New Yamaha PSR-S500. It's a relatively cheapy at a discounted price of $699.00

So why this one? It's one of the first I've seen in a less than $700 keyboard where you don't have to put in Numbers for Voices and Styles. Press a button say for pianos, like on the Technics and the list of pianos appears in the display. Then use the dial to select the one you want. It's more like the high end models.

It's also takes a USB thumb drive of any size to save and load data, midi songs and styles or a USB Floppy Drive.

I downloaded a bunch of styles that were from different Yamaha keyboards and they've all loaded and played so far although loading is a little cluncky.

With two 12 watt amps, two 12cm and two 3cm speakers the sound quality is a bit better than I expected.

Finally there are 150 built in styles, 283 panel voices, 361 XGlite voices and 32 note polyphony.

I'm not plannig on getting rid of the Technic PR54 anytime soon but this little baby is a good buy.

Right on Bernie. She has plenty of time to master the little beast.

Congrats Heather,

The same can be said for you FRAN!

After 3 years we will all be expecting you to play SOMETHING at Jam4 even if you pre-record it and then just stand there and pretend to play. LOL

Well Bill,
Actually I was a Yamaha Fan before I saw the light and switched to Technics but since I bought the Yamaha Motorcycle I figured I may as well keep going. LOL Now when are they going to start making Automobiles?

OK so the one thing I thought would be really great about this keyboard turns out to be really limited. It seems that user styles can only be in the root directory of the USB Drive which limits them to about 80 before the Directory Name space is used up.

Where as Midi songs can be under folders make the limit on them the size of the disk drive.

Why would the lazy programs do such a stupid thing.
