Is everyone pleased with style conversion ?

I had forgotten that Technics offers style conversion software .

Is everyone happy with it ?

How much are you using this tool ?

i had forgotten about it too it is a bit of a carry on ,and it does not convert yamaha styles, the roland ones are not too bad though, i have not put anythig that has been converted on to the 7000 yet but i think i will try it one day. Somehow there seems to be just too many styles flying about and it is difficult just to remember what they are, and a pain to document everything, so i keep using the old tried and tested ones . Does anyone else feel like this?

Yes, I agree. I rarely buy or download styles. I most often use the built-in ones, which these days there are plenty of! I occasionally have created my own style, or modified an existing one. I do have a half-dozen given from friends/forum people. But probably 95% of what I do, I do with the many varied built-in styles. There are so many ways to modify them, including "on the fly" as you play, such as muting then later un-muting parts, etc., to give more variety.

I do create my own sounds and registrations (panel memory settings), that's where I tend to put my originality in [plus hopefully in my playing]. Hence, I have not accumulated a huge collection of external styles.

Where can I download a style conversion disk?

I have a KN6000, and need the style conversion to play my songs from the KN5000 and 3000.

You don't need a style converter disk to play the kn5k style disks. Just load the style and save it back to disk in kn6k format. To use earlier than the kn3k styles you will have to have access to the next step-up keyboards and do a load and save until you reach the kn3000/5000 level. Very time consuming, but better than losing the styles.

If people want to use the on-board styles, thats fine. Me, I like variety and will only use a style one time for a recording, and never again.I convert a lot and though time consuming in some cases, it saves starting from scratch. I started a library with notes when I first started conversions and it saves me a lot of time when I'm trying to find a style to fit a certain song. I may go through 30-40 styles to find the one I need, so a few thousand isn't too many. If a performer plays the same tunes over and over, then only that many styles would be needed, and the on-board styles may do the job. Hey, whatever it takes to keep the music alive!

I can load the KN3 patterns into the KN6000 and they work OK after a little modifying as to volume and reassigning the parts if needed.

Back to the original question, I haven't used the style conversion software but that's mainly because I have built up a large library of KN6000+ styles. Bud has done a great job in converting styles and making them available, and I have made a list of these styles plus the tempo of each one, and I regularly look thru this list to find something suitable. I have also styles from a German site that unfortunately now seems to have closed down, and a number of styles from various other sources.

The last time I looked at the style conversion software I seem to remember that Yamaha was missing (as Jan has said). Now if they included Yamaha then that would open up a lot more styles. Meanwhile, I've plenty to use.

With all the styles that are available to us from different sources I wonder why no-one produces good 2/4 rhythmns. I don't mean Marches. I am trying to find a good style for "Rhythmn of Life" with good fills but no luck. Any suggestions? I know hoiw to patch up a 4/4 to sound like one but it isn't the same- I don't know why they are so hard to find. Cheers Jean.

Now here's the difference...I play for public entertainment both solo and with a young girl singer and I find a much warmer response from the audience when I play a number using the correct rhythm (absolute copy of original hit) including intro...
I use EMC Style works Professional which includes the facility to convert Yamaha rhythms and it does them superbly providing the opportunity to play many more popular numbers accurately.
Anyone particularly interested in specific rhythms for specific numbers get in touch and I'll see what I can do - anything up to KN5000 and therefore useable on the KN6/6500...I don't anything about that side of things re the KN7000 yet...

Hello Roger ,

It's interesting to hear that an audience will respond to a style better when it sounds like the original song .

This is one reason that I use 75% midi sequences during a performance because the styles are good , but people react better when they can recognize the song right away .

Styles can not handle a bridge of a song .

I do a one man show consisting of mostly midi files to help the audience identify the songs better than a generic style can.

I probably asked a wrong question. Scratch my "style" question.

My problem was more like I can't play any of my KN3000 or KN5000 disks on my KN6000. I recorded a lot of songs into the 5000's composer saved them into the disk, now I just want to replay it on the 6000, I think I didn't have a problem playing 3000's stuff on my 5000 WITHOUT having to re-save, or re-program.

First of all to Kozykeys - the software that I use converts midi files to style files...I'll bring my laptop up with me to the Wetherby meeting to show you.
Secondly to KN fan - I think what you are saying is that you have sequenced your music and saved it to disk...I've got a feeling you'll have to do it again with your new machine*!!*>@*!

while the file plays , I sing and play right hand leads ( add vocal harmony )at the same time .

A Style conversion disk for the KN7000, which includes Yamaha PSR9000 and 2000 is now available from Technote but it is expensive £50 !! (that's US$78)
It also includes conversion from Keytron X1,SD1,X9 Roland G-1000,VA-7 and Korg i30,PA80

Are you saying that the Kn7 package, unlike the Kn6, does not include a style conversion disk? If so, bit naughty of Technics to charge us extra for it.

Thinks, wonder if the Kn6 conversion disk will work on the kn7????

this is the upgrade disk I have mentioned before, I think that price is maybe wrong, it says £20 or approx $31 elsewhere.

Now that I have read the current edition of Techplus, it states in there that the price is £20 but in the small A5 catalog that came with the magazine, which I read first, it states £50.
One of them is wrong and I would suggest it is probably the £50

Hum. Just received my copy of Techplus which answers my question and confirms what you all say. Just hope that Willum is being a bit pessimistic and the price is as stated in the magazine (£20) and not the somewhat exorbitant £50 in the catalog.
Hoping to collect my 7000 next week and so you can except more questions.........

the 6000 version was available for €25 (euros).

whew... it is £49.99 after all.

Then let's all of us complain to Technics, or just not buy it.

For your general information.

I bought EMC's Technics style upgrade Disk for my 6500 when I had it.
It was to read the style disks of the following keyboards.
Korg i30,i40/50
Roland G-1000/EM-2000
Soltan Ketron X1
Yamaha PSR-9000/740
It converted all with no problems except Yamaha. The main reason I bought the disk.
Very few of the Yamaha convertions were usable. To me it was totally useless for Yamaha styles.

I am wondering if it is the same disk Techplus is selling but for the 7000.
