KN1000 vs Roland JV1010 - 05/20/02 01:28 PM

HI I have a Technics KN1000 keyboard
I bought an external module sounds of Roland JV1010 and when I use (play) converted midi files from the disk drive 720k I want to use Roland JV1010 sounds

Is that possible?

I just connected Midi out from Technics to Midi In Roland JV1010, next, line out from Roland JV1010

I already searched Technics menu Midi1 Midi2, I tried everything all menus... I canīt do it!

How ca I do it?
Thank you!

Hi Carlos, nice to see you on the SZ forum,
welcome!

To midi up the KN so you can use the sounds
from the JV should be possible, but I guess
the tricky part will be the drums, because the
KN1000 is not GM compatible.
Anyway, I've no experience in this from the
days when I used a KN1000 myself, but I'm
sure there is any of the members here who can
help you out to get it work. Good luck.
Kind regards
GJ

Gunnar is right, the Kn1000 was not gm compatible. You need to look through the part setting menu, midi channel assignment menu, midi output setting, and local off menus. It's a long time since I saw a Kn1000 so can't remember the exact menus, but voices may be possible by matching channels in both 1000 and 1010. Drums will not work unless you can make a Kn1000 drum map with the 1010.
How are you loading midi files into the Kn1000?

in that case, if you have the original midi files it would be far easier to play them from the pc or laptop and use the 1000 and 1010 as sound modules, choosing whichever voices you prefer from each.

To play from the 1000 I'm pretty sure the 1010 would need to have a programmable drum map feature, and the midi setup would be relatively more complex.

Besides the 1000 sequencer is only 8 track, so you are merging tracks , or throwing away tracks beyond 8 since you will not be able to play 16 tracks - you really need a gm compatible keyboard.
