HELP! Struggling to connect PX30 via Midi...

Can anyone help me? I have tried everything I can think of, but my technics PX30 doesn't seem to work with my computer setup. I have a standard midi lead which connects to my Awe64 Value soundcard, a copy of Cubase Lite & Cakewalk Express and when I hit record, I get nothing. Is there a midi driver or something that I am missing?? Please, somebody help, because I have been trying for about three months now and it is driving me insane!!!
