Proposed UK Technics Get Together

Proposed UK Technics Get Together - 06/07/07 01:31 AM

Roger - in common I suspect with other potential participants of the proposed UK Jam I have had an email outlining an offer for the 29th and 30th October this year. The narrative then refers to this as a weekend. Strange, I make that Monday and Tuesday. Can you clarify this please? - Joan

Aaaah Joan - you should know by now that incompetence is rife in british industry...chuckle.
I'm checking with the hotel and have asked them to clarify - I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear back.
Rog
p.s. I suppose I'm incompetent too for not checking the accuracy of the information I received...shucks

Don't 'knock' yourself Roger. It is a great job you are doing one which I suspect many others would not want to take on.

You will have received my email also wherein I say "I admire you greatly for taking this on" I know only too well what it entails as I used to be a Personal Secretary to six Company Directors many moons ago and no! I'm not going to tell you how many moons ago that was...

All the best.

Yes Joan you are right! I will wait for clarification before replying as you know I am booking a cruise around this date.
I also note that John North's name is not included in the list of emails.
John has said he would like to come, in an earlier post. Maybe Iv'e missed something.
Regards.

Watcha everybody
Our Eve at the Holiday Inn in Cambridge apologises for confusing us all with these dates that don't make any sense and now offers us a choice of weekends in November either 3rd/4th or 10th/11th - so I'll write again to everybody and gather in your answers...
Sorry about that and thanks Audrey.
Rog
p.s. for Joe - John North labels himself as another name - he is in there somewhere...

Hi Joe,
I have just put "holiday Inn Cambridge" into Google and the first site it finds give lots of info. There are 200 parking slots. There is also Internet access in the rooms. the following is from the Internet site.

The Leisure Club offers a gym and an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and is complimented by two Beauty Treatment Rooms (advance booking required).

Looks like we can take our swimming togs too.
Cheers

Hello Everyone,

I have just read the concern over parking at The Holiday Inn and as I am a 'native' of Cambridge I thought you might like some further information. Cambridge being a very old City has many narrow streets which means 'One-way' systems are in operation. To assist the many visitors we have each year, there are several Park-and-Ride sites around the City one of which is very close to The Holiday Inn. If you are going in to the City itself, I would strongly recommend you use the Park-and-Ride as Car Parking fees in Cambridge are exceptionally high.

The Holiday Inn is also very close to another place of interest - namely the City of Ely. This small town is associated in the History Books with Oliver Cromwell and I would think most people have heard of Ely Cathedral and I can assure you that this is well worth a visit. The Ely Park & Ride is only operative on a Saturday at the moment, but there are plans to extend but hasn't been confirmed when this will come into operation.

I have found a website which you might like to take a look at - detailed below:-
www.visitcambridge.org

This site is full of information and not only lists places of interest but also shows MAPS on how to get there.

I do not have the web address of Ely Cathedral but if you do a 'Google' SEARCH naming: 'Ely,Cambs,Cathedral' (without the apostrophes) you will get a lot of information from there.

Another Search, 'Cambridge,Cambs, Bed and Breakfast' brings up a whole list of B&Bs and Guest Houses.

I hope this will help in some way and I am really looking forward to 'putting some faces' to the now very familiar names.

Audrey
