Anyone played KN5000 styles on the KN7000 yet?

Anyone played KN5000 styles on the KN7000 yet? - 08/31/02 07:07 PM

I'm thrilled (yet admittedly envious too) to hear that the KN7000's are available in Europe. I'm now anxiously awaiting their arrival here in Califonria (USA).

One reason I'm particularly interested in purchasing the KN7000 is because (as a former KN5000 owner/devotee) I've amasted a huge collection of KN5000 (and earlier) format styles & songs. It's my understanding the KN7000 will play KN5000 format styles directly without prior conversion needed. Will the KN7000 recognize & read all KN5000 format file extensions (cmp, lsw, msp, pmt, sqt, tm, etc) ?

I'm looking forward to hearing from KN7000 owners who've loaded KN5000 format styles into their keyboard. How similar to the original do the style patterns sound when played on the KN7000? How much tweaking(if any) is required to get them to sound fairly close to the way it originally sounded when played on the KN5000? Also, how do the KN5000 panel memory settings (instrument setups) sound on the KN7000?

I'm also interested in getting feedback from people who've played other Technics KN format files (KN6000/6500/3000/2000) on their KN7000.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Hi Scott,
they say Norway is a part of Europe too, but
my dealer say October.....

I think you will find that the styles will
load OK, but because of the new sounds and
added or changed dsp etc, you have to tweak
a bit to get it sound as good as possible.
Remember when you had your KN5000, you had to
tweak even more if the styles was from older
KN models.
Happy playing

5000 full customs do not load direct, you must have the composer versions available. 5000 format is not quite as good as 6000, and will need slightly more tweaking, but nevertheless works well.

Hi Alec,

I assume you were referring to 'Custom Rhythm Section' (.RCM) type files when talking about 'full' customs, right?

Alec: Thanks for the thumbs up that KN5000 composer (CMP) files are playable on the KN7000. I assume that KN5000 PMT (panel memory), TM (sound memory), and SQT (sequencer songs) files are recognized as well, right?

I'm now looking forward to getting first hand feedback from KN7000 owners who've actually loaded & played KN5000 styles (CMP, PMT, TM, and SQT files) in their KN7000. Just 'how good' do these styles sound when played 'as is', and just 'how much' tweaking is required to get them to sound decent (similar to the orginal) ? I'll be more than glad to forward a few KN5000 composer files for testing (on the KN7000) if anyone's interested. - Scott

Hi Bill (Willum) Check your email. I just 'beamed you up' some KN5000 songs & styles. Looking forward to hearing how they sound on your 7000. Over and out . . . - Scotty
