SD Cards - Hi-Speed? - 01/17/05 11:27 AM

Hi there - SD Cards - I see that Integral now have both a hi-speed and other sort on the market now.

Taken from internet site UK -

Integral - 256MB Secure Digital Hi-Speed
£21.58 ex VAT (£25.36 inc VAT)

Integral - 256MB Secure Digital £15.93 ex VAT
(£18.72 inc VAT)

Has anyone used the Hi-speed in the KN7 and/or backing up/reading on USB drive?

Joan

Joan--

We have purchased and used the SanDisk regular and Ultra (high performance) 256mb SDs.

We have been unable to detect any difference except in price. Clocked speed of read and write, and reliablility have displayed no difference in our KN7000, camera and computer applications.

Joan,

From what I read in a computer magazine. The High Speed SD allows pictures to be taken with less delay between shots. One of our forum members stated that restoring a large SD is much faster.

For comparison, I have searched for the speed of the regular SanDisk SD but can find no data. The SanDisk Ultra has data published on the SanDisk web site.

For the amount of times I would be restoring a large SD, the increase in cost is not worth it to me.

I'm fairly sure that no benefit in file transfer speed will be achieved by using a Hi-speed SD card, in any of the KN series keyboards. The speed limitation is imposed by the KN operating system - not the performance of the SD card.... Save your cash

I agree with Willum re use of the card in the KN7000. I have found that I have begun to use the cards with card readers with my PC's quite a lot and I do notice the improved speed when I am moving large files. The cards have replaced the zip drive that I previously used to move stuff between computers. The speed of the card could be important to you if you use the cards for purposes other than just the KN7000. There is also a time improvement in doing backups of the cards using a USB 2 card reader. Not sure how the Song Manager does with higher speed cards. I don't use the Song Manager.

HI JOAN.
THOSE ARE GOOD PRICES. HAVE CHECKED THEM WITH MY NORMAL SOURCE (INTERNET) AND A 512KB IS £15 CHEAPER.

Hi All,

Besides the KN7000's OS, also the optional Card Reader can be a bottleneck. For example the original Panasonic Reader is only USB 1.1 so purchase of High-Speed CD is waste of money. Indeed it seems that for fast digital photography it makes a difference whether you blow the image with 4 or 15 MB/s
