Technics -- Yamaha Opinion

This is a Technics forum, and I honor that. But---- if anyone want to know the negatives and positives (Comparison) honest opinion from a long time Technics user e-mail me.
I loved my kn7000 and I love my Tyros 2 but I do not want to post my opinions on this forum in respect to others on this forum.

I have played on the Tyros II in the store of my dealer. It is much better than Tyros I, but I prefer to spend the money for other purpose. For the money of a Typrs 2 I can gove two children in Brazil food, clothes, medical care and education for more than two years!!!

So my KN7 will be my keyboard for the coming years.

Have you seen our "children abroad" we sponsor?

I admire you my friend, I wish there were more that thought like you.
And the KN7000 is one good keeper.

John, Just a word. I recently bought a Roland G-70. Its a fine machine but I use it msttly to play stride piano. Still have my 7000 tho............ Harry B

G-70 and a KN7000, sounds great, the best of the best. There are times when I miss my KN7000, it is one-of-a-kind.

The subject of comparing other keyboards to Technics was discussed in the past. If I remember correctly the majority of members were in favor of threads comparing keyboards, including myself. We could certainly use more threads.

Our Florida Jam was once Technics and now it is for all keyboards. We have two Tyros attending this year along with Harry and his new G70. I look forward to a live comparison.

Do we have forum members that object to John posting his findings?

John is the object of our attention...

Yes, this is indeed a TECHNICS forum.However, TECHNICS has gone out of the business.I am aKN7000 junkie and play the thing on a daily basis.Every time I do, I wonder how much longer it will last.Some day something may go wrong.At that time it would be nice to know what other KN7000junkies have moved on to.That being the case I very much need to know What current and former KN7000 owners have found as a suitable KN7000 replacement.Far as I'm concerned share away, I'm not offended. Love that 7000!

Still have my KN7000, but briefly went into a G70 as well. Loved the 76 keys, some sounds, some rythms but overall it didn't give me any excitement and I found the operating system (especialy the OTS's) quite confusing. Being previously familiar with Yamaha (PSR2000, PSR3000) I decided to quit the G70 and got me a Tyros 2, which I am enjoying (as well as the KN7000).

As Secretary of a local Keyboard & Organ Club I am in the priveleged position of having been able to listen to and play the Tyros 1, Tyros 2, Casio, Roland, Orla and of course KNs. Because of the complexity of the Roland it has now been changed for a Korg PAX1.

The Korg PAX range would be my choice if I had to change because I liked what I heard and it is more 'User Friendly' than most (on par with the KN7). However, I'm sure at sometime or other, you will have played with full sunlight/lighting shining directly on to your screen, rendering it almost useless so, until Korg bring out a model with a tilting, raised Screen like the KN7, I am not even going to contemplate changing my keyboard.

Meanwhile, just in case problems arise with the KN7 and coupled with the fact I have a large library of Technics disks and my own setups, I've bought a "near new" second hand KN7 as a stand-by so hopefully, I'm fully covered for the foreseeable future.

I played in full sunlight yesterday on my KN7000 and couldn't read the screen at all whichever direction I tilted it in...
I ended up moving into partial shade and putting a book over the screen and peeking underneath when I wanted to move to the next setting.
I've thought about possibly sticking some transparent non-reflective material over the screen - any ideas Bill or Audrey...?

I had the same problem with my Digital Camera until I found Hoodman http://www.hoodmanusa.com/. Not sure if any they sell are adaptable to the 7000 but it would not be dificult to construct. They attach with velcro. I used a hood on the 2600 that cured the reflection problem.

Hi Rog,

I doubt if the Anti-Reflective material will be of much help. I think Fran's suggestion of a 'hood' would be a better choice. You could probably fabricate one from stiff card and colour it black. Attaching the hood to the KN7000 might require a bit of trial and error

Hi Folks!

What a good idea using a hood - I hadn't thought of that. When I've been in that situation I've been able to cope with just changing the Contrast and tilting the screen a little.

My first thought on reading the posting was a glamorous Chocolate Box. Of course, I would have to eat the chocolates first wouldn't I? However, my husband's comment was "what an excuse to pig out on chocolates, why can't you just use cardboard as was suggested?" Good point I thought. Ah well! I'll dream on....

Interesting subject this though isn't it?

I feel it’s important to consider the support and material that is available when you buy a new keyboard.
I agree that korg is the closest to the KN7000, but it tends to favor contemporary music.

The keyboard with the greatest amount of free styles, registrations, sounds, pads and support is Yamaha. It is one of Yamaha’s selling features.

Opinion; If you are thinking of going to a new keyboard don’t try to find one like the KN7000, there are none, the KN7000 is one of a kind. I bought two Tyros 1 keyboards, I could not make them sound or work like the KN7000 so I sold them. I never gave the keyboards a chance, I never understood what they could do. There are so many new features on the new keyboards, keep an open mind.

Where’s my heart – in a new KN8000 not in a Tyros 2, I bought it because I could not find a more suitable keyboard for my needs.
