USB, or NOT USB?

USB, or NOT USB? - 09/17/17 08:52 PM

THAT is the question.
I have an adequate home studio with Logic, Pro Tools, etc and an M-Box interface for my Mac, but I'm getting interested in doing multitrack sound for a video production team ... mostly weddings, and such. The last one I did, I used a MOTU 8Pre interface into my laptop, and it was fine, but I'm looking at all these new digital mixers and thinking .... hmmmmm, can I incorporate the 8 input tracks PLUS mix the ensemble live, too?
I like This QSC TouchMix 8:

and this Behringer X-Air X-18

Any thoughts, comments? * tracks at once is a must have .... 16 would be cool sometimes, too ... so many choices.

I have a Zoom R16 which records to SD card. Records 8 tracks at once. Very reliable and portable, but the interface is not so intuitive.

You may have a look at the Zoom LiveTrak L-12 which can record 12 tracks at the same time. It looks easier to operate, too.

Thank Maarten,
I decided to go modular with a Presonus rackmount interface. It's got almost all the features of the hardware mixer, and I can record 8 channels at once. Awesome effects, and very intuitive. Thanks for weighing in.
