Digi001 vs MOTU 2408mk2 - 06/26/00 02:58 AM

Can someone out there tell me which one is of better sound quality? I would like to purchase a DAW, because I have to return the 2408mk1 to the original owner.

Both allow 24 bit recording.

In terms of connectivity, the 2408 has the big edge- up to 3 ADAT I/O, 3 TASCAM I/O and 8 balanced ins and outs. Add also 9 pin ADAT sync as standard. It offers front panel metering and you can expand the system right up to 72 inputs and outputs if you wish. It is also very widely supported by the main sequencer/hard disk recorders such as Cubase, Logic and Digital Performer.

The Digi 001 is cheaper but in many ways it offers less with only 1 ADAT I/0 and no ADAT sync option. However, there are 2 decent quality phantom powered mic pre's on the front panel. It also comes with it's own software (Protools LE) which is pretty comprehensive but stills needs to improve with regards to midi sequencing features.

Also the Digi001 is not expandable.

Both systems have their pro's and con's and you should give both a go- but mabey if you already are familiar with the 2408 then getting a 2408 mark 11 might be the GO. Good luck.
